Mahdi Shehu on Alleged 1995 U.S.-Backed Plot Against Abacha Mahdi Shehu’s account of the 1995 Durbar Hotel bombing speaks to foreign interference, regime change politics, and the hidden hands that have shaped Nigeria’s political history. According to Shehu, a U.S. Embassy political officer approached him in Kaduna, offered him money, and asked him to drop a parcel at the Durbar Hotel as part of what he described as a campaign against the Abacha government. Shehu says he refused, only for the hotel to be bombed shortly after, with journalist Bagauda Kaltho later linked to the incident. This story forces a larger question: how many times has Nigeria’s instability been engineered, sponsored, or encouraged by foreign powers, only to be later presented to us as our own failure? This is why Africans must pay closer attention to the history we are told, the history that is hidden, and the people who benefit from our chaos.

What is life? • Dostoevsky: It’s hell. • Socrates: It’s a test. • Aristotle: It’s the mind. • Nietzsche: It’s power. • Freud: It’s death. • Marx: It’s the idea. • Picasso: It’s art. • Gandhi: It’s love. • Schopenhauer: It’s suffering. • Bertrand Russell: It’s competition. • Steve Jobs: It’s faith. • Einstein: It’s knowledge. • Stephen Hawking: It’s hope. • Kafka: It’s just the beginning. Each one must therefore give life a meaning according to how you one perceive.

GRITCULT
GRITCULT@GRITCULT·
Dostoevsky was 28 when they stood him in front of a firing squad. Blindfolded. Hands tied. He could hear the rifles being loaded. At the last second a messenger on horseback arrived. The Tsar had commuted the sentence. The entire execution was staged. Psychological torture designed to break him. It worked. He had a seizure on the spot. They sent him to a labour camp in Siberia. 4 years. Freezing. Starving. Sleeping on wooden planks next to murderers. His epilepsy got worse. He had no paper. No pen. Nothing. When he got out he was broke. His first wife died. His brother died. He inherited his brothers debts. He was so desperate for money he signed a contract with a publisher that would have given away the rights to everything hed ever write if he missed the deadline. He wrote The Gambler in 26 days to make it. Dictated it to a 20 year old stenographer named Anna. Married her three months later. Then the real work started. Crime and Punishment. The Idiot. Demons. The Brothers Karamazov. The greatest novels in the history of the Russian language. Maybe any language. The man who stood blindfolded before the firing squad, who convulsed on the ground while soldiers watched, who slept next to killers in Siberia for 4 years, who was buried in debt and grief. That man wrote: "every minute can be an eternity of happiness." He earned the right to say it. its never over. never give up fren.

@IgboHistoFacts All the 5 eastern states has higher cut off mark than 99% of the rest. They'll think they're systematically oppressing the easterners but on the flip side, with such cutoff mark, the students from east will outperform the rest . Hence; the success rate.

The best thing you can do for yourself as a Nigerian is to use that internet connection of yours while you still can, and follow/read/watch information from a wide variety of sources from all over the world. Your Nigerian media is a Europe-US information cage. When I say "Nigerian media", I'm not just talking about news platforms. I mean your popular social media bloggers. Your big content aggregators. Your online discussion and image boards. Everything is bought and paid for, and the money is always European or American. Do yourself a favour and unplug. Look for news, web content, TV series, movies and discussion forums from Asia, Latin America and other parts of Africa. Watch Brazilian TV shows. Watch Chinese documentaries. Watch Vietnamese movies. Follow social media content creators from Indonesia and Russia. Lurk on Pakistani message boards. Gain a wider picture of the world while you still have access to a relatively open internet that allows you to do so. It's the best thing you can do for yourself.
