@hisdoryan Sadly there are 100s of amazing events from Britain’s history not included on the curriculum. It wasn’t in my day. Most of my education has come from my parent and my own endeavour. It is one of the reasons in my view why a lot of kids have little pride In their home.

I was so dead this morning that I poured coffee in my cereal instead of milk. I added milk and now I have invented a new breakfast. Just like the discovery of penicillin

The Prince Rupert (1452). Newark. A small attractive market town which was under siege a number of times in the civil wars. The 3 bays were truncated due to siege damage so this was a larger building once. It is well restored with mercifully unblackened timbers.

@roberrttoa Me too, childhood memories. And seeing the fireworks in cabinets in newsagents. A rocket nearly hit my car earlier.

The door into the south porch of Howden Minster. (After 1272; probably 1280s or -90s?) Of striking willfulness, but I love it: it seems like a portal into a strange and wonderful world.

A hand brand for felons and deserters, from 1642-9. A British civil war piece used by Royalists and heated before application to brand the treacherous whoremonger for life. It makes me itchy just looking at it, especially the C R which signifies Charles 1 is the current monarch.

@About1816 @penswordbooks Can’t wait. I loved your first book on the subject and have just got the other one on Cromwell. Any hints on the new one? Well done. I’m off to the civil war museum in Newark tomorrow funnily enough.

This weekend my nephew asked me if I could see electrons. His unfaltering faith my in super-powers is so life-affirming. Regrettably, I can’t see sub-atomic particles with my bare eyes.
