The fear of nuclear weapons may somewhat depend on the generation of the person. Someone who lived during the 1950’s and 60’s was educated they could perhaps be incinerated any minute. The schools taught students to line up in hallways and put their head between their legs. Signs were placed in buildings that were designated as fallout shelters, and digging bomb shelters in backyards was a thriving industry. Recent generations are more complacent.

They’re orders of magnitude bigger. “Duck and cover” was never going to save you. Once it starts, everything we think of as normal life — gone. He mentioned the Soviet Tsar Bomba and America’s Castle Bravo — devices so huge the aftermath is almost impossible to imagine. We talk about nukes like they’re some dusty historical thing. But the risk between major powers is still very real — and the consequences would be civilizational. It’s one of those topics that feels too big to think about… until someone puts it in plain terms. What do you think — have we become too numb to how dangerous this still is, or do you believe the deterrence will always hold?

Many, many Americans are becoming increasingly alienated by the blatant hostile rhetoric toward the U.S. as well. There is a relatively silent majority of conservatives who are well entrenched in their beliefs. The expression of their beliefs is through their actions such as boycotts and their vote, e.g. Trump election and MAGA. There may well be a point where the discontent with Canada by Americans will be apparent. Ultimately, nothing good or productive will be achieved by what is happening negatively in trade between USA and Canada. The USA and Canada are virtually and beneficially one nation in many ways.
