A Franklin County magistrate has halted the transfer of up to $1.7 billion in unclaimed funds from the state of Ohio to a sports and cultural facilities fund, saying there is a “substantial likelihood” that two Democratic former lawmakers will prevail in their lawsuit

@OHPoliticalNews @DC_DeWitt This is NOT what they are doing in Florida. Their proposal, not yet passed, only benefits residential Floridians and not commercial, business, or multifamily property nor any home owned by a snowbird. Moreover, the exemption proposed there did not apply to school taxes.

A group of activists is seeking to amend the Ohio Constitution to ban property taxes. Rankings show Ohio property taxes are relatively high, but policy experts say eliminating property taxes would cause devastating budget cuts across public services. ohiocapitaljournal.com/2026/03/06/a-g…

@SherrodBrown Maybe, Mr Brown, you need a refresher course on the difference between a WITNESS and a DEFENDANT. Senator Husted is merely a witness and never has been charged with a damn thing.

Jon Husted is at the center Ohio’s largest bribery scandal ever. Now he's being called to testify at the trial. His backroom deals have cost Ohioans over $500 million, and they’re going to hold him accountable.

@darreldrowland This is why the prudent move was to support coal, nuclear, and hydro. We love gas but electric generation shouldn’t depend on 1 fuel source.

Trump admin to give $175 million to six coal plants, including two in Ohio For one of these plants (OVEC), Ohioans *just* got of a yearslong bailout of the plants that charged citizens $679 million over about a decade to give to its owners signalohio.org/trump-admin-to…

@KimGeorgeton Even if the increase in state administrative cost, salaries, and spending on outside services disappeared, it wouldn’t begin to replace the $23 billon annual loss of property tax revenues, all of which goes to local(not state) services. Inflation from 2020-25 was 21 percent alone

Kim Georgeton for Lt. Governor of Ohio
🛑 Ohio! Typically, Republican values are smaller government and lower taxes. Right❓ What did you actually get under DeWine’s legacy as governor ⬇️⬇️ 🚨Total State Operating Spending ➡️ Now exceeds $100 Billion annually ‼️ Alarming administrative Government Costs - multiple new offices and reorganized departments have been created with real financial and staffing consequences that taxpayers are funding. FY2020: $8.77 Billion FY2025: $11.36 Billion ➕30% Increase 💰 Government Payroll (Salaries & Benefits) - The Governor’s Office itself now employs dozens of staff members earning close to six figures on average, with salaries rising significantly in recent years. FY2020: $5.08 Billion FY2025: $6.22 Billion ➕22% Increase 📊 State Workforce Size 2022: 48,639 Employees 2024: 51,190 Employees ➕2,500 Workers 📈 Outsourced / Contracted Services FY2020: $1.66 Billion FY2025: $2.25 Billion ➕36% Increase ⚖️ New / Expanded Bureaucracy - New initiatives tied to behavioral health and opioid response have added layers of administration and millions in new or expanded spending. The creation of the Department of Children and Youth added a cabinet-level bureaucracy overseeing more than two billion dollars annually. The education system was also reorganized into a new cabinet department controlling roughly ten billion dollars in funding. ➡️ Department of Children & Youth oversees $2.2+ Billion annually ➡️ Education Cabinet Agency controls ~$10 Billion annually Expanding administrative payroll while Ohio families and small businesses face rising costs raises serious questions. Taxpayers are not just funding programs. They are funding the administrative layers managing those programs. This growth came at a time when many corporations were tightening the belt and cutting costs. This is Democrat style governance with an R behind it. Not to mention he locked us down. People keep asking where we will find a way to replace the abolished Property taxes? A litte bit here and a lot over there is where. Is this what you voted for? It’s definitely not what I voted for. Now is your chance to fix the problem. @CaseyPutschOhio will audit, investigate and cut overhead, like a real Republican should.

@still_hustling And do you want to shutter the last few coal plants in Ohio? That was in the bill too. How about more money to help low income folks weatherize their homes to save on electric bills? That too was in the bill

Ohio's largest corruption scandal is exploding again: FirstEnergy execs in trial right now for bribery and racketeering, ex-GOP Speaker Householder shopping a plea deal to dodge his, and all because establishment Republicans sold out taxpayers for corporate cash in the HB6 nuclear bailout scam. This rotten party machine took the money and ran. Time to clean house in Columbus, no more grift, no more excuses. Real conservatives deserve better.

@still_hustling Adam, are you aware that the legislative service commission analysis of the whole bill said it would SAVE ratepayers over $2 billion because we ended government green energy mandates? Are you opposed to nuclear power? That was in the bill.

Ohio must prioritize and pass HB 149. The Ohio Wire Act introduced by myself and @kevinmillerohio will ensure Ohio’s law enforcement has the resources it needs to go after fraudsters, criminals and human traffickers.
Bernie Moreno@berniemoreno

Fraudsters and criminals are abusing the system to send MILLIONS in taxpayer dollars abroad while working Americans pay the price. I’ll introduce a bill this week to prevent ANYONE on public assistance from sending remittances overseas. The fraud must end.

The Affordable, Reliable, Clean Energy Security Act is critical to cementing President Trump’s America First, pro-energy agenda into law. I am proud to lead the charge in bringing desperately needed regulatory sanity and stability to Washington. dailysignal.com/2025/10/23/bal…

@BuckeyeInstGreg Greg, I largely agree with what Summit Co. did but it only applies to its share of the inside millage, not all of it. We can debate what the increase number should be, or whether we should use a CPI index, but the concept is moving in right direction.

@DavidPepper The current spike in electric costs is solely due to greatly increased demand and insufficient supply of baseload power plants. Too many baseload plants have been closed and renewables haven’t begun to make up the difference.

@DavidPepper Senator Husted has zero to do with energy cost rise in Ohio. The bill he supported saved Ohio ratepayers $2.3 billion per the nonpartisan LSC entity that costs out all bills. That went to $3.2 billion saved when nuke subsidies were repealed, again per LSC.

@AuditorRhodes Dusty, off topic but question: when property values decline, what is the impact on inside millage- does it decrease or is it held constant to the prior year?

@BuckeyeInstGreg @GovMikeDeWine Before everyone panics about a ballot initiative to repeal property taxes, a little historical perspective is useful. Ohio had no state income tax until the early 1970’s, when a Democrat Governor and legislature narrowly passed it. Not once, but twice, ballot repeal tries failed.
