Don’t care if you believe me I worked that job for 18 years until it was outsourced over seas scrambled to find another job and stayed there for 28 years. There were women that worked there for 40 years when we all were laid off in 1996. All Fruit of the Loom factories were moved overseas. Except the main office that is still here today.

Women were definitely encouraged to be in the workforce starting in the early-mid 80s so I flat out don’t believe you. Had multiple women in my family your age who wish they could have stayed home but their only option was 2 income household / high schools were all pushing women into university and the work force. I don’t think Canada was that different than the USA in that regard.

How the fuck are younger people supposed to save when Boomers want to shift their tax burden on us after decades of every single life necessity rising in cost far faster than wages?
Phlegmatitron@phlegmatitron

@ljmontello So Boomers wanting save money shouldn't encourage other generations to save money?

@CindyYoung456 @ljmontello if you live in bowling green, ky, and your property taxes are over $2,000/yr, you need to sell your mansion and the surrounding 400 acre homestead you apparently own. you’d have no problems with a smaller more affordable home and an absolute truckload of money from selling yours

@CloverKitt16901 @ljmontello One of my jobs was working at a sweat shop Fruit of the Loom , you got payed by piece work ,which means how many garments you could sew in a day. 18 years. That was from 1978 till 1996. The only place where women could find a job.

@CindyYoung456 @ljmontello Wow you were given a factory job without sweatshop wages and a pension (that would actually hire you and not third world scab labour) and a mortgage? So fucking tone deaf

You try to live off of 2400.00 a month and tell me how well you do at the end of the month. My lack of planning for retirement is my fault no one else’s. The average SS is 1900 a month. Probably higher for high earners I have never made more than 27.00 an hour and that was only the last 3years of working. That 2400.00 includes the small pension I received.

@CindyYoung456 @ljmontello I don’t believe you. Property taxes are like $2500-$10,000/yr unless you live in a crazy expensive place and if so you should downsize. Social security if you’re married is like $60,000/year and basically tax free. Plus you have a small pension. You’re not struggling.

@CITIZEN_1976 @ljmontello I’m getting a lot of hate for something I had no control over. I’m being told I had everything given to me. I don’t get it.

@ladygray08 @ljmontello Yes a hard work ethic and determination to not end up like my parents. Alcoholics that neglected their 6 kids who had to fend for themselves.

@CindyYoung456 @electricplug77 @ljmontello Sorry you are wasting your time trying to help the young people. They don’t want to sacrifice the way we did. They don’t want to work two jobs like we did. We didn’t get fat because we didn’t eat out. They’ll never learn until they replace the poor me mentality determination.

@CindyYoung456 @tkwg0 @TheNorthWoods11 @ljmontello People are being rude, but your logic makes sense and you’ve taken accountability. We still need to fund police, fire, schools and maintenance though, and property tax is the model we’ve chosen. I’m sure if you could go back in time you would, sorry you’re in this situation

@soopajx @ljmontello @CindyYoung456 Over 50% of the US population doesn’t have a College degree. Gen X is also very much responsible for voting the people who did this to the country. Right or left. Did you get married young? Because that’s the key to be able to afford life and buy a house young. Stop blaming

I didn’t buy my house to sell I bought my house to live in ,when I’m gone my children will sell it. They will benefit from the equity. Policy over the years is not my fault or yours. I will continue to pay my taxes because I’m not asking anyone to bail me out. I do think that once something is payed for it should not be taxed for you or me.

@CindyYoung456 @ljmontello You are now asking for people to give you something tho. It’s sounds like pension and ss are not enough to maintain your house?

@tkwg0 @TheNorthWoods11 @ljmontello A handout would be living on welfare that I have never done. My bad retirement plan is no one’s fault but my own. I don’t think ANYONE should pay a tax on something payed in full. I’m not understanding the handout that I supposedly got.

Doesn’t make that my fault. NO one should have to pay a tax for something already paid NO one. You worked paid your car off there shouldn’t be a tax on it you worked for your home shouldn’t be a tax on it. That’s all I’m saying. You pay that tax when you buy it ,it should be yours.

@CindyYoung456 @Devon_Eriksen_ @ljmontello YOU LIVED THE FUCKING DREAM that most of us want, how do you not see this? Every single job I've ever had has laid us off every 3-5 years like clockwork. What you described DOES NOT EXIST ANYMORE. We don't have housing nest eggs, don't have pensions, we don't have what you had.
