@type1ayy @IgnoreKassandra @3xcalibaneur 2020-2024: a million cars stolen EACH YEAR. Imagine how large that number would be if cars were worth $200,000 and could fit inside a backpack. That would be 200 billion a year in damages at just current numbers using your car comparison. It's ignorant to think wont affect you.

@ThomBrady5 It's unfortunate that most of the people with the largest voices and platforms are also wealthy enough to be almost entirely shielded from any of these realities.

@YDKI007 @USAttyEssayli @FBILosAngeles The press release is being used as a way for the currently non-powerful wing of the state workers to publicly shame the city for hiring a convicted murderer.

@YDKI007 @USAttyEssayli @FBILosAngeles It's a felony for him (as a convicted violent felon) to posses body armor in California. Same charge as if he had a firearm. It would be a misdemeanor if his previous crime was a non-violent felony, but he murdered somebody.

MacArthur Park Update This morning, @FBILosAngeles arrested Michael Angel Alvarez, 41, a.k.a. “Diablo,” an active 18th Street gang member, convicted murderer, and Los Angeles “Peace Ambassador” who is being paid with L.A. city taxpayer dollars. According to Councilwoman Eunisses Hernandez: “Peace Ambassadors are embedded in the communities they serve. Their presence strengthens safety networks and ensures families have someone to turn to outside of law enforcement when facing non-emergency conflict or community stress.” Alvarez is charged in a federal criminal complaint with possession of body armor by a violent felon, which carries a statutory maximum sentence of five years in federal prison. According to an affidavit filed with the complaint, Alvarez was paid more than $58,000 last year for his work for Healing Urban Barrios, an organization that contracted with the city for its Peace Ambassador program that is run in the city’s Council District 1, which includes MacArthur Park. Alvarez was convicted in 2002 for first-degree murder for which he was sentenced to 50 years to life in state prison, but was released by the State of California after serving just 24 years’ imprisonment. There is no indication Alvarez has ever stopped associating with the 18th Street gang. In fact, in jailhouse telephone call recordings of Alvarez since his release from state prison, he discussed assaulting individuals for breaking gang rules. @LAPDRampart officers who searched Alvarez’s car near MacArthur Park on May 18 discovered two body armor plates in the trunk. The plates are from Las Vegas and are marketed as “the highest protection level available on the civilian market.” The hardworking tax payers of Los Angeles deserve better than to see their money shelled out to a convicted gang murderer.

@b3a5tc0c @JTAlexander I just looked up the demographics for Tesla owners and it's 97% homeowners vs 3% renters. This is almost the only reason why these aren't being mass adopted. It's not just the car price with electric vehicles.

@JTAlexander For the most part new ICE cars aren’t as reliable as the old ones. Even Hondas and Toyotas. Buying a cheap, reliable older car with cash is best. A leased Tesla model 3 at $299 a month is also super cheap. I wouldn’t buy a Tesla given the outrageous depreciation they have.

My first real lesson in financial management of any kind was Dave Ramsey's program. Its got some good fundamentals, but he's been wrong about cars in particular for at least 15 years. The sticker price isn't all that goes into a car. Calculate how much the car costs PER MILE. This is your most effective calculation of the actual cost of a car. Cheap new cars, like a Nissan Versa, almost always have a lower cost per mile than most used cars because the cost of maintenance and repairs is effectively zero. New cars also usually have lower interest rates than used cars. Yes, if you *can* pay cash for a used car that's a non-issue, but if you can pay cash for a used car in 2026 then you have more money than the people Dave's program was designed for. Whenever I have told people that buying new is actually cheaper in the long run, I get weird looks and silly objections from people that insist I'm talking about buying a Challenger or a 4Runner or F150. I haven't bought a used car since 2010. I've bought four new cars since then; all cheap little Versas until I traded them all in an upgraded to an SUV a couple of years ago. If cheap and effective is what you need, look for the cheap things like the Nissan Versa, Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, that kind of thing. Calculate based on cost per mile, not cost per month.
Nick Freiling@NickFreiling

I think Dave Ramsey is wrong about cars. There is no way to assuredly buy a "cheap and reliable" used car. You can gamble on one, but you can't be sure that's what you'll get. It's smarter to buy new. It's *extremely* hard to save money without predictable monthly expenses.

@GreenAmber10k @JTAlexander It's becoming increasingly common for them to read smut. These new genres are skyrocketing in popularity, they already outsell mystery, thriller, literary and science fiction combined. It's almost a 2 billion dollar industry. 41%+ sales jump in 2 years compared to 4% fiction

@BowieFan2024 @NEETzscheIDDQD Not only are they asking for more of it, they already RECEIVE IT NOW. 39 states offer relief programs specifically for seniors, 6 of them allow full deferral until sale. 18 provide tax credits. Boomers get luxury handouts from the government and it's still not good enough.

@memeticsisyphus The important thing for people to remember is not that woke has gone away, it's that a lot of these people have lost their institutional power. They still hate and want to kill you, they're just currently unable to do so.

They still do this. They just don’t have institutional support anymore. There was another attempted dust up because some rando was making ice cream using an odd south East Asian ingredient. They haven’t learned any lessons, they haven’t become less vicious. They would still gladly ruin your life over something trivial like this, companies are just more adept at handling the retard wave of cancelations so it’s become less effective.

Things got so crazy back then that leftists were attacking college cafeterias for “cultural appropriation” because they had Mexican food.

@posta_octavian Thiel already has citizenship in New Zealand and 400 acres of property with multiple homes. He's just a tech-globalist like most of them, they have no loyalty to any country (even the one that made them rich) and are hedging their bets. I don't think The Joos are to blame here.

100%. This is the situation: - Peter Thiel grooms JD Vance to be his perfect pet for over 15 years, gives him a job, funds his book, his senate run, etc. - Then, JD "ending Ukraine aid is my proudest achievement" Vance becomes vice president - but makes an ass of himself and has to abandon his presidential ambitions --> Soon after, Thiel quits the US and goes to US-Israel vassal Argentina Something went obviously very, VERY wrong for the PayPal crew and now they're afraid people will come after them.

Peter Thiel sees what’s coming, we are entering into a new deal era of redistribution based politics. His plan to build a Russian-styled authoritarian kleptocracy has failed. The ‘based’ oligarchs aren’t going to fund your slopulism much longer, they’re leavinggg.

@GhostRhodesia @Devon_Eriksen_ @esrtweet I think it's more being forced to realize that the little box in my pocket can clearly understand what I ask it and a lot of people cannot. They're not conscious in most of their responses, its more a reflex based on the stimuli presented. They're reacting, not thinking.

@Devon_Eriksen_ @esrtweet how is this conclusion derived from AI? If it’s because they themselves believe the AI is conscious I don’t think that proves that they are not conscious. It proves people believe and rationalize whatever they want to be true but I’m just guessing what the argument is lol

Hilarious. And, I think, true. I have yet to encounter anybody taking a strong position in the argument over whether LLMs are conscious - on either side - that shows any sign that they know what they're talking about. Want to persuade me otherwise? Define the predicate. Show me your experimental test for "is conscious". Once you've done that, we can have a conversation that won't be completely meaningless.
Sam White@SamWhiteTky

Future people will look back on current discussions about LLMs being conscious in the same way that we look back on Victorians discussing whether the telephone could be used to contact the spirit world.

@WomanDefiner I'd like to see gym/personal trainers able to be written off on taxes as a reasonable health expense. Combined with subsidized GLP1s, you're simultaneously creating incentives and reducing barriers to entry. In effect getting paid to become healthier with pre-tax dollars.

I actually think its a perfectly reasonable stance that if the Government pays for someone's healthcare that the Government should make sure those people also eat healthy until they are off Government insurance. It's owed to the tax payers to make sure that person isn't obese.

@revenant_MMXX It's cute because they LOVE the rising home values when they're taking out HELOCs, refinancing at higher values, borrowing against their equity etc... If the appreciation is real enough to borrow against it's real enough to be part of the tax base.

Boomers will say "my house is a hecking investment, you can't let home prices go down" but also "nooo, my home is too valuable so my taxes are too hecking high" If a home is "an investment" then these decrepit idiots should cash out and then they won't have to pay taxes anymore.

@CindyYoung456 @Devon_Eriksen_ @ljmontello Also, property taxes aren’t a one-time fee for buying the house. They fund the schools, roads, police, and services that make your property valuable and caused it to appreciate so much. I understand where you're coming from but your analogy is dumb, cars depreciate.

@CindyYoung456 @Devon_Eriksen_ @ljmontello It’s not your personal fault, but your generation’s voting and politicians created this system. Once you know the yard is dangerous, it does become your fault if you keep letting the kids play there. Congress is still run by Boomers & Gen X, not us. Take some responsibility.
