He is perceived as a flat character by many but I think it's heavely because of the game genre and also what the authors/creators wanted to present (as I said, to experience a horror game). He was just underdeveloped, not bad

@81stCommander @Faisal935_ I agree but look, we can agree that it was the 1st time they did that because they wanted to try something new. And they learned from that bc look where we are rn with RE9, considered one if not the best RE game in the franchise.

Does he deserve to be described as one of the great heroes in Resident Evil ?

@81stCommander @Faisal935_ Also, it being something new by making him a self insert it's because VR games was a big thing back then. They wanted the player to feel as if he is Ethan. Was it boring? Sometimes, maybe. But don't forget what they wanted for you is to experience a horror game, not a life sim.

@81stCommander @Faisal935_ And guess what, he did not know he had this kind of powers because every time it happened, he still felt the pain like a real human. That's a pretty powerful character in my opinion, one that is a regular citizen nonetheless.

@81stCommander @Faisal935_ Yeah but they didn't do that that often. Plus if he has this ability why not exploit it in game a few times. It was not as much shock value than to show his power and one of the characteristics that makes him special.
