Let’s hope that Smith “getting away with it” will not cause those who aren’t celebrities to feel they can do the same.

Lawyers who handle Assault and Battery cases, as I do, will tell you that someone making a joke about your spouse does not justify a slap, punch, or any physical contact for that matter.

I’m a huge Will Smith fan. I have been since the Fresh Prince days. But what happened last night was absolutely unacceptable. While Chris Rock’s joke was in poor taste, it is not a defense to Smith’s actions.
