Yes. The Scouring of the shire is incredibly important. The best chapter in the series.
But the film wouldve suffered greatly. Having to introduce the sacfeild baggins, fatty, ect. Hot mess.
Sarumans death in the film should have had that moment with his spirit flying away tho.

His absense in 4 is felt. And i think that and that alone is why TS4 feels the way it does + why he needed to be recast and not retired.
Potato head is the nucleous. Its like you need him. Hard to explain.

In 4, if you can count the number of scenes when Potato Head or Slinky appears, that's not a good sign.

I think one of the most underappreciated aspects of this movie is how well they juggle such a huge cast. It's a 100 minute kids movie with one simple story that only has like 4 or 5 major locations, yet they flawlessly balance like 20 major characters. Everyone does something &-
