Medically speaking, the heart is a muscular organ that pumps life-giving blood to all parts of the human body. It provides the oxygen and nutrients that our bodies need to survive. But our hearts are among the most important spiritual organs God has given us. Spiritually, the heart symbolizes the center or core of our being, from which prayer and morality originate. This even explains the word “core,” which derives from the Latin word for “heart.” Now, in our natural condition, known as sin, the human heart isn’t aligned with God’s heart. Instead, it’s evil, wicked, and filled with deceit and treachery. The human heart is so wicked and treacherous that we are easily deceived by it. But this isn’t the case with God. He knows what’s in our hearts. In fact, He’s the only one who knows our hearts’ true condition. Jesus said, “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man.” (Mark 7:21-23) Therefore, we need a new heart, as the Lord promises in Ezekiel 36:26, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” This was also the cry of King David, saying, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10) Thank you, and let’s get our hearts aligned with God.
