Entire denominations get this exactly bass ackwards. The Christian life starts out on the wrong foot and stays out of step...focused on the will of the sinner & engaged in trying to will themselves to become holier, more Christlike. Things go from bad to worse. "If you would gain your life in this world you must lose it." There's no dying to self going on in the "free will" churches. In fact the self is moved to the center.
