@Independent_ie It’s a shame Harris didn’t distance himself from Varadkar when it came to blocking ol dears from getting loyalty points on a bottle of wine, or ramming up the price of a can of beer to those who could least afford it increasing breweries profit He was content to do follow then.

@IrishTimes Irelands spending is not far ahead of other countries in the comparison, when you consider the exchequer is stuffed with mad money, with no end in sight. it is of course a concern. Prudent people will suggest that it should be held in reserve, but those any country really do that

Opinion: The fuel protests show that a certain sector of workers still has the capacity to bring the country to its knees. In a world where many workers complain their power has been eroded, last week was an example of effectiveness of brute force. irishtimes.com/opinion/2026/0…

@IrishTimes The same system operates in Ireland with the HSE and Tusla constantly failing clinically with no accountability other than the chief executive appearing in the media with yet another apology and the public purse coughing up compensation. No sanction for the incompetents within.

@adrianweckler @danobrien20 The problem now is if they keep dropping in price it will be like a ponzi scheme in reverse, everyone who buys will lose.

In 2026, it’s cheaper to buy a new electric car in almost all sizes to petrol, diesel or hybrid. Used to be opposite til very recently. Especially small cars (a previous weak spot): 4 EVs now under €20k — only 2 petrol and 0 diesel/hybrid at that price m.independent.ie/business/techn…

@Independent_ie 12 months is too long, Martin made a hames of the presidential election, made a hames of the special needs teacher debacle, made a hames of the fuel protest, he is blessed though with the bunch of weaklings at the top of FF who he can safely ignore while he blunders on.

@IrishTimes Connolly is in position because of the failure of Harris, and Martin in particular, who made a hames of the presidential election, like so many other things. They will just have to suck it up for 7 years until she clears off.

@CitizenUddin Quite simply businesses need supplies which are normally delivered by trucks, councils close their eyes to that fact by putting in barriers to safe access by the trucks at the same time sticking their hands out for their share in the form of rates.

Spain. Oh dear, a delivery driver has to use a sack truck as he can't park "right" outside his delivery address as it is in a pedestrianised zone. I can't ever see that taking off in the UK......

@Independent_ie It’s extraordinary that by bashing a piece of rubber around a field you can become a billionaire, even more bizarre is people watching them get excited at the prospect of it, in comparison to people who do genuine humanitarian work are sometimes not even remunerated.

@wereontheditch A county council should always be on its guard against possible compliance in potential corruption through lack of transparency by staff. Galway county manager should initiate an investigation into the handling of this case and about staff coming under pressure to hide the truth

As I said yesterday, the Gardai decided that there had been enough protesting done, and shut down roads to block people from moving. This man was denied access to St Patrick's street to get food. This is unconstitutional. 🇮🇪
