As Europe faces another wave of extreme heat, many are experiencing firsthand what it means to work, commute, and simply exist in dangerous temperatures. But for millions of workers around the world, this isn't an exceptional event—it's everyday reality. Extreme heat isn't just uncomfortable; it increases the risk of heat exhaustion, heatstroke, injury, and even death. As climate change drives more frequent and intense heatwaves, protecting workers from extreme heat must be a priority. cri.org/reports/they-d…

The World Cup should celebrate human achievement—not serve as a marketing platform for the fossil fuel industry. Just as tobacco was once pushed through sports sponsorships, fossil fuel companies are using football to normalize the products driving climate change and deadly air pollution. Banning fossil fuel sponsorship alone won't solve the climate crisis. But advertising shapes social norms, influences public perception, and helps sustain industries that are incompatible with a livable future. Read more about it here: substack.com/home/post/p-20…

Colombia is moving toward national cattle traceability to tackle deforestation risks. There’s an opportunity for the region to learn from this and strengthen transparency across Amazon-linked supply chains. Our report "Curbing Cattle-Driven Deforestation and Rights Abuses in Brazil" shows why it matters: forced labor, Indigenous land invasions, and weak traceability still shape cattle-driven deforestation. “Here cattle are treated better than workers.” cri.org/reports/before…

France could reopen its overseas territories to new oil and gas exploration, a move that would directly conflict with the country's international climate obligations. “French lawmakers should be providing leadership on climate action, not reversing it,” said CRI researcher Fabien Offner. cri.org/france-reject-…

On #WorldOceansDay, let's reflect on how climate change and fossil fuels are reshaping our oceans and inland seas, such as the Caspian Sea, the world's largest inland body of water. The Caspian is shrinking fast, threatening water, biodiversity & human rights. There’s still time to act: cut methane, end fossil fuel expansion, and invest in a just transition.
