@SaulOvah @bernardjackman 2. On setup, the flanker is forced to match Porter’s angle. Notice the large gap between the flanker’s hips and the No. 4 lock. This clearly shows how Porter’s wide stance disrupts the tight-five connection and alignment. ***Porters angle is a disservice to his packs common goal

@SaulOvah @bernardjackman A loosehead’s role is to scrum in & up—never down. Pulling a scrum down is counterproductive. 2 Cues 1. Porter’s setup angles left. His left foot is set wide rather than parallel to his hooker Sheehan’s left foot, meaning Porter is effectively scrumming alone & not in alignment.

Some of the reactionary punditry to the Springboks awesome display of forward power Saturday is hard to take seriously. I would hate to see the scrum depowered and the Irish players and coaches will be the same. Just because one team is brilliant in one area why would you dumb it down rather than everyone strive to get better🙈

🗣️ "That was just horrible. All those people that came to watch that game and on TV, it was disaster." 🤜🤛 Matt Williams: Springboks performance was 'masterful' but World Rugby must depower the scrum after Ireland 'disaster'. planetrugby.com/news/matt-will…

If school were like real life: 1) you could divide the work between people better at the subjects 2) you could add and subtract people as desired - or change groups - or go solo 3) when you fail, you can try again So I guess it wouldn’t look like school at all.

Connect communication and life skills. We assume they know, but teaching and reinforcing what and how to say things is an important part of coaching. It doesn't just help you in basketball, it helps you in life.

@BJBotha Speed & consequent pressure keep Frans’ hips high forcing Frans to (give up space) to readjust his right foot in an attempt to get his hips & chest down. On both occasions, it appears his setup height & angles, pre-engagement, restrict him from capitalizing on his size & weight.

@BJBotha BJ on both scrums posted, Frans gets his knees/hips to 12o’clock post engagement (leaking power). His height requires him to be at 1o’clock (optimal push position) to ensure his hips & chest go through & down. Because Frans sets high, he inhibits himself & Slipper’s engagement..

This scrum follows the scrum I just posted. Multiple foot movement and players trying to get comfortable, not a good sign. What I want to show here is a article I shared a few weeks back about the “critical timing of the Loose-head decision to attack is critical for T-head”
