The 13 reasons that Kris Knoblauch was doomed this year and fired today:
1. The St. Louis offer sheet and heist of Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway.
2. Bowman's summer signings of Frederic and Mangiapane.
3. Physical and mental fatigue from two long playoff runs.
4. Knoblauch's coaching staff hiring cock-up of last summer.
5. Bowman and Knoblauch conflict over which players to play.
6. Way too many new players this year, all year.
7. Knoblauch himself at times failed to reward players who had done well.
8. Crazy busy travel in October and November.
9. Team's inconsistency in finding their "A" defensive and puck possession game.
10. Same old, over-reliance on Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
11. Edmonton's goalies simply failed to get the job done.
12. Cascading chaos bubbled up and never went away, as seen by Draisaitl, McDavid outbursts.
13. The final coach killer was injury.
@obg093@TopTierPucks He took some horrible penalties during the finals last year. I like the player and the grit but I don’t think he can change the way he plays and he lets emotions get the better of him at times (usually the wrong times).
@TopTierPucks Could use the grit, but he was a defensive liability, and defense isn’t exactly Edmonton’s strong suit. Toward the end of his time here, he was also taking untimely, unnecessary penalties — another issue for a team whose PK already struggled.
Evander Kane was on Neon’s stream, and he basically brought up Edmonton every chance he got. He said that it was his favorite team he ever played for and how he wished he was never traded.
I would love him back with the Oilers on a $1-3M contract. We need gamers
#LetsGoOilers
@NotoriousTIG94 I do not hate this suggestion. I would like a proven goaltender but there aren’t a ton out there who won’t cost us an arm and a leg. We have seen what young, unproven goalies can do this year.
Something around Kesselring+Levi makes a ton of sense for the Oilers to pursue, and likely won't mean completely paying out the nose for two young solutions to major problems
@MorganLaidler Why did we get rid of Krueger again? I remember really liking him. I don’t remember what the falling out was. Didn’t the younger players play extremely well with him too? He got the most out of everyone if I remember correctly.
@pwd_offl You didn’t like it, that’s fine. The match wasn’t for you. You wouldn’t have liked Hacksaw Jim Duggan or Koko B Ware either then. These acts were for kids and to be honest it wasn’t that bad. It was a fun bit. Get over it or stop watching. Easy fix.
@RajBauer I just said the exact same thing. Either tell the fans you are keeping Knoblauch or move on now and try and get Cassidy. Make a move today, either way! I’m hoping we go after Cassidy personally but let the fans know one way or another what you are doing.
If the #LetsGoOilers don’t move on Cassidy asap I’m going to be real upset but then again I should expect this as a life long fan of this team with horrible management
@jimmathesonnhl I hear Bruce Cassidy is in the running for the Kings head coaching spot. If Edmonton doesn’t make a decision quickly on Knoblauch, Cassidy could be lost as well. Who do you target if Cassidy is off the board as HC?
If Knoblauch is replaced as Oiler coach this is the owner saying something has to change because the GM Bowman can’t in all honesty say he is free of blame. He has made mistakes and so has president Jackson. And while we’re at it, players need to be held accountable too
#GoHabsGo knock off #GoBolts in Game 7, despite managing nine total shots on goal - the fewest in a win in playoff history. Survive. Advance.
What a game. What a series.
Canada's 🇨🇦 lone Stanley Cup hope is alive. Montréal will face #LetsGoBuffalo in Round 2 on Wednesday.
