One of the biggest mistakes I made as a player... ...was hitting off a tee. Not because tee work is bad. Because I was using it wrong. I'd walk up to the tee... Take my swing. Adjust my mechanics. Then do it again. I was training my swing. I wasn't training myself to hit. Everything changed when I started treating every tee swing like a real at-bat. Before every swing, I'd picture the pitcher. I'd picture the pitch I was looking for. Then I'd picture myself driving a line drive into the gap, hitting a double, or launching a home run. After every swing, I'd replay the result in my mind. The crazy part? The more I saw success in practice... The more I expected success in games. And the more confident I became. Now I teach the same thing to my youngest players... (as young as 6 years old) After every swing, I ask them: "Where did you hit it?" "Where did the ball go?" I make them tell me. Out loud. I want them to vividly describe the result. Because I don't just want them practicing their swing. I want them practicing success. Most players spend hours training their mechanics... But almost no time training what success looks like. Then when they don't get immediate results in a game, they start believing something is wrong with them. I want my players to see success hundreds of times in practice before they ever have to experience it in a game. So here's what I'd do tonight: - Take 20 swings off a tee. - Before every swing, picture the pitcher and the exact pitch you're looking for. - After every swing, ask yourself: Where did I hit it? Where did the ball go? Say the answer out loud. Make every swing feel like a real at-bat. Because here's one thing I've learned playing this game: Confidence isn't built only by what you do. It's also built by what you repeatedly see yourself doing. Thank you for reading, Jermaine Curtis P.S. If you enjoyed this and thought it was helpful, please share it. (It tells me you want more content like this.)

Why is it ‘cancelled’ in the U.K. but ‘canceled’ in the U.S.? Because we gave them that L in 1776.

I once drove to a KMart in West Virginia (five hours away) to get a copy of NCAA Football 2004 because the store manager was willing to sell it a day early. Then I’d mail a memory card to DT Linder across the country and wait three weeks for a fully customized roster to hit my mailbox. Now I just fire up my PS5, the game is already downloaded, rosters are already named and we’re good to go. God bless America 🇺🇸 🎮

Randy Arozarena stepped out of the box on three straight pitches because he knew the pitcher wasn’t throwing him a strike. The count went to 3-0. Next pitch, he absolutely nuked a home run. One of the most disrespectful at-bats in MLB history.

NEW: Curt Cignetti tells @Clowfb he was "pissed at the hopelessness, the prevailing attitude" on his first day at Indiana: "By the time I got to that basketball game, later that night, I was f****** livid. We'd won conference championships and been to playoffs my whole career as a head coach, and you had these two worlds collide. I wasn’t going to sacrifice the standard. I wasn’t going to settle. I had to find out if the fans were dead or just on life support. I had to get them riled up." on3.com/news/some-arou…

NEW: Indiana's Curt Cignetti tells @Clowfb the Hoosiers are still building after their 2025 College Football Playoff National Championship run📈 "The minute you think you’ve arrived, you’re done. But it’s good to be in the discussion." Cignetti later added: "You ask anybody in our building, and they’ll tell you there’s a lot more to do." Exclusive: on3.com/news/some-arou…

Driving through Ohio. Towns like this are why we’re trying to avoid the interstates and take the slower roads instead. These are the kinds of places we want to see. This feels like peak America.🇺🇸

@coachcris_ @Wendi_Irlbeck The youth level has already over inflated these kids egos, which creates expectations that those kids aren’t ready for. Again agree to disagree

@CoachAD3 @Wendi_Irlbeck I do too. But there’s no Eason to say just bc they’re kids they don’t matter bc to them it does. A lot will obviously never play at a high level so let them feel like they are now. If it bothers people that much it shows you really don’t have real things to worry about.

🌶️ Unpopular take but.. It’s pretty ridiculous to rank 9U baseball players in any serious or public way. Here’s why: ❌Huge developmental differences: At 8-9 years old, kids are growing at wildly different rates. Some are bigger, more coordinated, or more mature simply because of birthdate or genetics. A “top ranked” kid can easily get passed by others in a year or two. ❌Small sample sizes: Most 9U games and showcases are noisy. One good (or bad) weekend doesn’t mean much. ❌Pressure & psychology: Public rankings at this age can create unnecessary stress, entitlement, or discouragement. Many kids this young are still figuring out if they even like the sport long-term. ❌Questionable motives: A lot of 9U “rankings” come from travel ball orgs, showcases, or social media accounts trying to build hype, sell services, or drive registrations not from objective, qualified evaluators! Legitimate uses at 9U: ✔️Internal team evaluations by qualified coaches to decide playing time, positions, or practice focus. ✔️Private, constructive feedback from experienced coaches (not public lists). What actually matters at 9U: ✔️ Fundamentals (throwing, catching, hitting mechanics) ✔️ Love of the game and fun ✔️ Work ethic and coachability ✔️ Basic athleticism and coordination ✔️ Age-appropriate skill development The best youth coaches and organizations focus on long-term development, NOT who’s #1 on some arbitrary list. MLB scouts and serious programs know most “can’t-miss” 9U prospects don’t pan out exactly as predicted. The late bloomers often catch up and surpass the early standouts. If someone is publishing public rankings of 9U players and charging for it treat it with heavy skepticism. It’s more entertainment/marketing than serious talent identification.
