was notified earlier today @GGTech_gg @UniEsportsNA @RSAAOfficial stealth changed the rules regarding #CLOL and #CVAL playoff qualification to hide management's mishandling of a swiss bracket that resulted in more than 16 teams qualifying pics: rulebook before and after

if I'm @SBUEsports, @EsportsCarleton, or @BruinsEsportsCA, I'd be even more upset to find out my #CLOL season is already over due to half my wins being marked as losses please don't screw over the teams like this @UniEsportsNA @RSAAOfficial 😭

Idk if this is a hot take or not, but clubs need to start fundraising or finding sponsors to cover these costs if they don’t want the players to take them on. Free competition does not exist anywhere, and if they want to offer competition in the club, they need to recognize that

@owaisicle @themissingward Very true. But for years collegiate esports didn’t have leagues that costed $1000s per year. It’s possible if there is interest and people willing to provide it, even if that specific league doesn’t last forever. This is mainly about clubs wanting free competition

@CoachAntor @themissingward Even in that world I’m certain the owner of the league would start charging entry fee and eventually increase them over time. Free leagues for the most part never stay free anyways, there’s a new one that pops up every few years and the cycle continues

Leagues have real cost associated with them. The era of free competition is ending, especially if there isn't a publisher ready to subsidize it. Traditional athletic Club sports, Travel Ball, etc. Have had dues/costs higher then this for my entire life. My Baseball team in 1/?

As much as I think clubs should fundraise I don’t think people realize or care that there are clubs that genuinely can’t afford these fees due to either their size or school policies. So there is like a genuine audience for lower cost leagues without all the bells and whistles

@HispanicPhenom If someone started up a league entirely ran by AI in a discord server with zero cost, how many schools would stay paying $1000s to leagues in their current states?

@HispanicPhenom But the article describes a free league popping up. If there’s a need and someone filling to fill it, they will. The paid leagues need to be worthy of the cost to be honest.
