Cowards target children.

I can’t for the life of me figure out why youth baseball (Little league age, travel ball, high school) is one of the only arenas where people with absolutely no experience have the strongest opinions. Stay with me here. Like adults that know for a fact they never played baseball ever stand at sporting events criticizing coaches or kids for making mistakes while also knowing virtually nothing about the subject matter. It’s the most ignorant, lacking any self awareness things in society. Do you also walk in the kitchen during dinner service and question the executive chef or ask the roofing professionals if they’re replacing your shingles correctly knowing you have no idea what you’re talking about it’s such an insane concept to me. Yelling at children knowing you trip over your own feet mowing your lawn. just be positive and encourage the kids, thank the coaches for doing the job you can’t even come close to doing. Stop embarrassing yourself and your kids.

There is such a lack of sportsmanship in HS baseball. Each year it gets worse. Each year it’s an apparent point of emphasis. I’ve already witnessed the F word being chanted and kid’s barking at coaches with coaches just sitting there not saying anything. When will the adults be adults and the officials actually step up and enforce anything?

Excuse my ignorance on this. What year did we start letting 9 year olds take leads & steal bases? When we were 12 foot had to be on the base. Stealing at 9 years old & taking leads might be the dumbest thing to date I have seen on a baseball field at any level.

In 2026 things are being said out of dugouts that if you said them in 1999 be prepared to never see the field again. I can tell so much about a coach & their program by what they allow their players to say and do. Culture does matter.

@TracyJSmith13 I do one that’s similar, but I hold it out like that and toss it up. The hitter has to load and hit it on the way down, simulating an off-speed pitch. Can manipulate timing by telling them which height to hit it. Under the letters, belt high, thigh high, knee high.

The silly, bush, fake energy …songs, chants, banging, yelling at opposing pitcher (players). Sarcasm. Etc. is such a tired act. How about the novel idea of genuinely pulling for your teammates with authentic enthusiasm and encouragement. That is what helps win games. Real opponents are not shaken with the antics of opposing dugouts.

As infielders ball security is so important. This is a great video of @ethanholliday2 doing his early work focusing chin down at glove contact and securing the ball. The eyes are one of the most important keys to catching the ball. Out front, sticking the ball in the pocket. 🧵⬇️

Common theme of all the best HS hitters I’m seeing is they attack the first pitch almost every AB & get their best swing off on that 0-0 count. If they swing thru it… they dont care. If your coach is telling you to be patient & take the 1st pitch most AB’s… u need a new coach!

After all the games I’ve watched this week, one thing remains true. Hitting the ball on the ground and hoping the defense makes a mistake is still the most efficient offensive strategy at the high school level!

Especially with the portal madness going on. Be proud that a school wants you! I’ve coached and played with plenty of guys that had JUCO and D3 offers that didn’t take them because they weren’t D1 and they regretted it every day since. Go where you are wanted!

As a HS coach—any college baseball offer is a win. D1, D2, D3, NAIA, JUCO… it all counts. If you think otherwise, you don’t understand how hard it is to get just one offer.
