Running a mediocre football program at UCLA was always a choice. It was the function of a penny-pinching UC system and intellectual snobbery on the West Coast (an issue that goes back to the PCC, which saw itself as the anti-SEC, & always has to be fought against)

‘Differentiated instruction’ is one of the worst phrases in education. This idea promises everything…while quietly expecting teachers to do the impossible. What’s another education buzzword that drives you crazy?

Luke Falk shared a Mike Leach story that stopped me cold: Two kids. One rich. One poor. Every training camp, Coach Leach told his team about these 2 kids. The rich kid has two choices. Get soft. Get entitled. Expect everything handed to him because he was handed more. Or take the resources, the coaching, the opportunities, and compound them into something greater. The poor kid has two choices too. Say nobody gave him anything. Blame the world. Make his circumstances the reason he never became what he could have been. Or outwork everyone in the room. Luke said the locker room had both. Kids from wealth. Kids from nothing. Kids with every advantage. Kids who scraped for every inch. Same choice for all of them. Ownership or victimhood. Fuel or excuse. The rich kid can waste the head start or build on it. The poor kid can drown in the deficit or weaponize it. Greatness doesn't come from where you start. @chriscfore Unqualified foster was for the job. I trust that if Chesney does his job, the attendance will improve and UCLA will be a nationally relevant team again. There’s no reason why they shouldn’t be.

@chriscfore I hope you’re right!!! I’m shocked this hire didn’t get more national recognition. This coach is legit and he’s won EVERYWHERE he’s been. I think a lot of people have written off UCLA given all the bad publicity they’ve had the last few years with the poor attendance and how

Defensive coaches - would love to hear how you would gameplan for this action? What are the coaching points? Are you checking to a MFC structure to add a hat here? This seems like a nightmare of a play to fit correctly.

Mannnnn 7on7 and 5on5 culture is making it really hard to teach kids the right way to carry themselves. Anyone else?

I texted a coach this morning and asked how the new job was going after about a month. His response was one I’ve heard many times… and lived myself: “Not bad. Some kids pushing back culture wise. Always worried about staff and numbers.” If you go into a program and start making the changes that need to be made, be ready for pushback. That’s normal. My advice to him: Water the good grass. Don’t let the weeds hold you hostage. Too many coaches start looking the other way because they want to keep players and coaches happy. They convince themselves they can slowly change the culture. It doesn’t work that way. Culture doesn’t drift in the right direction. It moves toward the standard you enforce. Stay strong to your principles. The right grass will grow. 🌱🏈 @fastnwide

@chriscfore Could you imagine how awkward it’d be when the current UCLA staff goes to OLU for a recruiting visit 😂

If OLU is really thinking of hiring one of the rumored coaches (former UCLA Head Coach Foster), they should do the research on 4 year coaches taking over high school programs in So Cal. I've done the research. They win just about 40% of their games . . . . . Just 3 of 12 that I did a deep dive on had winning records.
