Partner 4-Direction Agility. Learning how to react and create an effective shin angle for the first step, just like defense . No cones needed, more athletes involved at once, easy progression from 1 steps ➡️ shuffle ➡️ crossovers

The numbers tell you what happened, the curves tell you why In this RTP case study from @CoachKSammons, an athlete’s power–distance curves were messy: ❌ Flat tops ❌ Inconsistent peaks ❌ Lots of noise ➡️ Inefficient ground interaction 9 days later the curves cleaned up Not because of more coaching cues, but because a good plan, the constraint of load, and the opportunity to move

Heavy lateral work isn’t just concentric output ➡️➡️ Be intentional about both eccentric and multi-planar loading to create challenging and powerful stimuli for your athletes If you only sprint forward and never challenge frontal plane force production or eccentric control, you’re leaving adaptation on the table Insight from @CoachKSammons during a live demo @ALTIS, taking us through his coaching and loading of shuffling plus all the different ways to apply it 💡 Load the shuffle, own the decel, coach as needed, then watch the linear improve

Listening to @CoachKSammons present will be both the best and worst thing to happen to you One min you’re inspired, the next min you’re doing 45-sec EQI’s (ouch) Jokes aside, wanted to give him a shoutout for synthesizing/sharing high-level info about all things tendons and RTP

Reflecting on my own coaching/training: simplicity isn’t about knowing less, it’s about having conviction in what actually matters As simple as possible ➡️ room to hammer what drives progress B/c when you know the principles, you don’t need more variables, just better execution

Deceleration can be trained and progressed by manipulating 3 simple variables: effort, distance, and load It’s about understanding which variables to turn up or down, how they interact with each other, and how to sequence them over time Patreon post 89: patreon.com/posts/demystif…

Deceleration is no longer a mystical athletic quality that we know matters but struggle to develop beyond racing around cones A change of direction has multiple phases, each with unique characteristics, and each can be emphasized and trained just like any other athletic quality

Because research is cool and all, but only you deal with your population in your environment with your setup Here are some of the case studies I put together from my own data. These also happen to be some of my favorite (and most time-consuming) articles

Every training tech spits out seemingly 100+ metrics per rep or session. It gets overwhelming fast I've felt that w/ force plates, HR monitors, 1080 Sprint, etc But once I went from asking “what’s being measured?” to “what helps make better decisions?”, it clicked (1/2)

Most non-weight room training fails because intensity can't be scaled with enough precision. Everything becomes either “easy” or “all out" How do we train specific enough (transfer) and intense enough (gains), while being progressive/safe? Post 87: patreon.com/posts/if-inten…

Creating an effective training program is a constant tradeoff between specificity and intensity In the weight room, intensity is easy to scale. Load is relative to 1RM, bar speed, etc But outside that in speed training, field work, or RTP, those easy reference points disappear

It was only once I matched my reporting to the actual decisions being made that the data started to matter The analysis stayed behind the scenes, ready when the coaches wanted more, but the reporting changed Free article: patreon.com/posts/3-simple…

I used to send entire Excel sheets to my coaching staff every day. I had graphs, pretty colors, and thought I was doing everything right Over time, I got more frustrated when barely any of it was ever used Lesson: sport science doesn’t fail b/c of bad data, but bad reporting

Really like how this 2-part series turned out, expanding on and diving into @wildy_jj Sprint Archetypes 41 D1 Power 4 football players. More observational than conclusive, but fun to see high-level work in your own data Patreon post 85: patreon.com/posts/14689235…
