Vice Tackles happen all over the football field. A Vice occurs when two defenders work together to take down a ball carrier. Here are a few keys: Front Hip Player This is the defender the ball carrier is moving towards. As the name suggests, this defender should work to keep leverage on the ball carrier's Front Hip. This defender will need to come to balance and use Shimmy Footwork as they approach the ball carrier. The near leg should be forward, and contact should be made with the near shoulder. Keep the head out of contact! Back Hip Player This is the defender the ball carrier is moving away from. The Back Hip Player should not come to balance, but instead run their feet in pursuit of the ball carrier. A "Banana Angle" is the best approach as a Back Hip Player. This is a curved, downhill angle that takes away the cutback. When these two defenders work together the right way, the ball carrier has nowhere to run.
