If I could go back in time to when I was a young Linebacker coach, I wouldn’t ask for more drills. I’d ask for: -Clear progressions -Simple coaching points -A repeatable system That’s what you’ll find inside THE LB LIBRARY. Start here: thelblibrary.my.canva.site

Linebackers don’t need a thousand drills. They need a few good drills… Done a thousand times.

Most coaches are one or two details away from completely changing their Linebacker room. Not a new scheme. Just: Sharper eyes. Cleaner first steps. Better disengagements. Find those details inside THE LB LIBRARY.

Great Linebackers ANTICIPATE the play. Here’s a pre-snap checklist that can help: SITUATION The next play starts as soon as the previous play ends. Certain information is instantly available. This includes: -Down and Distance -Yard Line -Score -Hash -Strong Wind -Flow of the Game Football doesn’t happen in a vacuum. A quick understanding of the situation goes a long way. OPPONENT As the opponent gets ready for the snap, more clues emerge. This includes: -Personnel -Formation -Motion You’ve been scouting them all week. A quick pre-snap look at how they’re lining up should narrow down what plays you might see next. PLAY CALL Linebackers also need a firm grasp of their assignment before the ball is snapped. This includes: -Front -Stunt -Blitz -Coverage A Linebacker needs to KNOW THEIR JOB so they can execute their assignment. FINAL THOUGHTS You don’t want your Linebackers to be overloaded with information. But a quick check of a few pre-snap factors can really help a Linebacker anticipate what they’ll see next. And that’ll help them play fast.

Most Linebackers try to take on every block. Elite Linebackers know when to strike and when to avoid.

I once coached a Linebacker who kept getting caught in the wash. So we backed up his alignment by ONE yard. He started making plays all over the field. Details matter.

Linebackers: Playing fast doesn’t mean playing reckless. See it first. Move efficiently. Take great angles. To truly play fast… You need to play smart.

Quick Linebacker coaching point: Track the ball carrier’s HIP. It’ll help you keep your leverage.

I’ve seen lots of Linebackers improve. And the QUICKEST way to make a huge jump in production is to learn how to properly study film. Your reads will get faster. You’ll stop hesitating. It’s like getting the answers before the test.

Linebackers: You can’t SPRINT everywhere. You need to shuffle, scrape, shoot, change directions, come to balance, shimmy, flip your hips, etc. To PLAY Linebacker you need to MOVE like a Linebacker.

Elite Linebackers love contact. But they don’t smash into every blocker they see. They beat blocks with their: Eyes. Feet. Hands. TECHNIQUE leads to tackles.

Before Linebackers train their eyes, they: Hesitate. Guess. Chase. After they train their eyes, they: See it. Trigger. Make the play.

Something I’ve learned coaching Linebackers: Size and speed are great… But elite Linebackers can: Read. Move. Shed. TECHNIQUE leads to tackles.

Most Linebackers don’t realize this: Great plays don’t always show up on the stat sheet. Solid Run Fits. Great Leverage. Gap Assignments. Do your job… Over and over again… And you’ll help your team win.

Most Linebackers can make tackles. Elite Linebackers make tackles THROUGH THEIR ASSIGNMENT.
