@coachcris_ @StrengthDebates Never argue with fools because those from a distance can't tell who is who
English

@CoachD_AU @StrengthDebates Typical strength coach lol. Get aggressive when someone disagrees with you lol.
English

@coachcris_ @StrengthDebates If you don't understand the difference general versus specific training we can't have a conversation
English

100% disagree. Your job as a Strength & Conditioning coavh is to help keep your players on the field/court. It doesn’t matter what the weight is on the bar and at the elite levels of sports outside of weightlifting and powerlifting— Strength & Conditioning is a very small % of time in the weight room if you’re doing your job right. It’s primarily workload management and figuring out how to lower injury risk. Anything else is added benefit.
English

@coachcris_ @StrengthDebates That's fair. But the weight room isn't about specifity, it's for general preparation. You can do things that have a higher transfer of training affect but it will never be specific to any sport.
English

@CoachD_AU @StrengthDebates You have people here and there that do but it’s not popular there at all. Baseball is their culture and life.
English

@coachcris_ @StrengthDebates Shoulder injuries quite common in basketball
English

@CoachD_AU @StrengthDebates I don’t speak for sports I’m not an expert in but I haven’t heard of many basketball players rupturing their UCL or tearing their cuff. I’m sure if it was possible LeBron would have done it by now.
English

They don’t play soccer in the DR. I coached there when I was with the Tigers and coached enough in pro ball to see the difference. In 5 seasons I had 2 Latin guys have TJ while several Americans did. There’s enough research out there to support throwing year round if you aren’t against reading it’s pretty easy to find. You’re not a baseball guy, so not sure why you’re chiming in on our sport but the biggest issue isn’t year round play. It’s not properly building up after taking time off. It’s not from throwing hard, it’s from not being taught proper mechanics. The advantage the other countries have is they don’t shut throwing down to play other sports so they don’t have to build back from not throwing.
English

@coachcris_ @StrengthDebates Your right I'm a strength coach, have trained all kinds of elite athletes. Have you trained any athletes besides baseball players?
English

@coachcris_ @StrengthDebates I've actually trained golf, tennis, track and field, baseball, softball and volleyball at D1 level. I'm a bit more than a basketball guy but that is my current role for past 14 years.
English

@coachcris_ @StrengthDebates I've also trained P5 baseball earlier in my career lol
English

@coachcris_ @StrengthDebates I'm not aware of the injury rates in those countries, you got any evidence to back up this claims? They don't play soccer in those countries? Doubt they have year round travel leagues, but may play unorganized like we used to back 30 years ago.
English

@CoachD_AU @StrengthDebates Please explain why injury rates in baseball are lower from the Dominican and Venezuela when they play 12 months a year vs injury rates here where the narrative is not to. 🤔🤔🤔
English

@coachcris_ @StrengthDebates If you want to reduce injury risk don't specialize early and actually have a baseball season not year round baseball.
English

I train my 12 yr old as a baseball player bc that’s the sport he plays. He needs exercises that reduce his injury risk, such as ArmCare exercises, and anti rotational stability. Not every 12 year old needs those. Neglecting those types of exercises is why we have so many injuries in baseball.

@StrengthDebates He's obviously been taught how to finish with his elbows high, but given there is little to no velocity applied during the pull he's not using the exercise for its intended purpose which is lower body power nor does he receive the bar in any type of squat position.
English

What is the consensus here?
Imperfect reps can be part of training
Or is this too far?

@CoachGeoffReed What age did you start lifting? Max strength peaks mid to late 20's. Doesn't make sense unless you started training latter in life.
English

@StrengthDebates For all those saying it's a DL as long as you start with the hips higher are missing the fact that the load is laterally placed versus anteriorlly when using a barbell. It's harder to load the posterior with the lateral load.
