A subtle but critical aspect of the resource gap is it disproportionately impacts less affluent athletes. Most folks I talked to had a relative managing their NIL. If dad's in marketing or your sister's a lawyer, great. If you're the 1st in your fam to go to college... good luck.

The majority of deals athletes I spoke with had came via cold calls to companies and old-fashioned hustle. Meanwhile, some athletes are so ill prepared, they don't even have checking accounts in which to deposit their NIL payments. They're often relying on teammates for help.

@MJH_316 You also have a lot more legacy kids. Not necessarily kids for track parents, but kids from professional athletics parents. We’re seeing folks who kinda get how these sport worlds work, put their kids in positions to succeed in them.
