@coachklee Agreed. I’m thinking maybe more of the left backer there the way he never fully commits to the motion but someone is wrong there. Offense saw it and exploited it. Defense is 68% do your job

@AdamArchuleta If the pad were lower and simulating more of a shoestring tackle would that be better? That’s how I have done something like this minus the crash pad and we used a moving dummy while bending to get to it. I agree never tackling like that at that height.

@CoachtmanesALT I think part of the difference is with catapult now, all their film is out there and easier for other schools to access now so no need to keep it secret because any team can pull any game.

Maybe this has changed over the last couple of years in the coaching world. But the Coordinators that are at the top of their peers generally do not care if you break down their tape. In fact they welcome it. I’ve ran into almost every coordinator that we’ve talked about on @The_Ballmanac and every single one has been super cool. Feel like when you talk to OGs about it there was much more of a “hushed” vibe to talking ball a decade or two ago. Either the coaching world has changed, or people at the top are cool with seeing their ideas talked about or challenged. Potentially both.

@TheGridironHQ At the HS level you don’t get to legally recruit your players so I think more needs to be done to make what you’re running, fit your players more than making your players fit what you want to run. Every scheme doesn’t fit every player. But there is a scheme for every player.

Unpopular opinion: Most HS teams don’t need better athletes… they need better systems. Coaches, what’s the biggest system your program is missing right now?

@CoachDShack @CoachWalczak55 You may not be discrediting those drills but the way it is put seems to be discrediting drills using bags, cones, chutes etc. there’s a place for it all in my opinion. It’s like a QB throwing into a net, a 40 yd dash, a 5-10-5, OL blocking a crowther. It’s not FB but has a place.

To anyone who plays TITE (4i’s) front, what stance (staggered or balanced) do you use for your 4i’s and why do you do it? Love to hear some reasons.

@JasonBornn1 I teach mirror step then climb. Any inside block of tackle is easy just keep hat inside Any outside step of tackle we HAVE to look inside ASAP to see where guard goes Guard comes to easy stay in the B Guard goes away, look for pull then look for mesh, stay flat take out air

@JasonBornn1 If you change to more of an even stance, instead of all momentum which takes eyes with an outside block of tackle going outside. You then get flatter step with ability for eyes to not shoot outside too fast

@JasonBornn1 For me it deals with the blocks you can get and how to defeat them. As a 3 tech you look through your guard, can see inside and can see in the backfield. As a 4i if you stay staggered you see through the tackle, can see outside and harder to see backfield.

Similar to what I had in my manual. I include a tilt stance for my open side end at times to help with down blocks. Mainly younger players.

Less formations and harder to fit plays give way more headaches. Delaware 2 yrs ago ran every formation in the book and while it was a headache to plan for, the plays were basic. But they threw in unbalanced and TO in MOF. The game breaker was motion out of empty.
Talk N Shoot@ChalkLast0712

2 ways to create issues for a defense with formations: -have so many formations that defenses have to spend extra time in practice & can easily get misaligned OR -have so few formations the defense never knows what is coming bc tendencies are much more difficult to figure out
