@AdamArchuleta @BrianKight We don't teach that angle when running the alley, but Downs is an elite athlete. He can get away with that and shouldn't be coached out of that. We teach CTB as the widening of the feet w/ weight on the insides of the feet to be balanced and able to redirect/execute a Power Step.

But that's not what is commonly taught when running the alley. The teaching point has always been - "track inside hip" and give him on way go.. Im also interested in vocab and terminology - my experience is that "come to balance" etc. means different thins to different people with no real consensus of what that actually means and the proper technique that goes with it. food for thought

This is a good tackle, let’s talk technique… Caleb is not taking the “track the inside hip” angle that everybody teaches for safeties running the alley. 1. What is it he DOES do that help him make this tackle? 2. Is that the most important coaching point?

@AdamArchuleta @BrianKight Close space - come to balance - finish (some key vocab to break down within each of those phases, but that’s the nuts and bolts of how we talk it concisely). Downs’ tackle is elite because he enters it square and makes contact square.

How I structure sessions: 1 - Fast stuff 2 - Heavy stuff 3 - Stuff that burns We start with the fast stuff first, while athletes are fresh (eg jumps and sprints), then we go into the heavy lifts (eg trap bar deadlifts), then we finish with the stuff that burns (eg lunges).
