@bruce_arthur Because that was the deal with the Padres. Behind the scenes deals happened throughout the tournament with all teams with pro players. Teams said when and how players could be used. Team USA built their plan around that.

@tdbearcat They said on the broadcast that the guy that closed for Venezuela, who is the Cubs closer was told by the Cubs he could only pitch if it was a safe situation so I think it cut across the field evenly. MLB teams made it tough on all the countries.

I really can’t take the WBC seriously when you’ve got guys like Skubal and other top-talent pitchers sitting out as a rookie starts the championship game lol. I really wanna get into it. But it needs tweaking so top guys play and can give 100%.

@KasselMedia WBC means an awful lot to some of the smaller countries where being successful at baseball is hero status. It just means a lot to them. For our guys it is not the top of the mountain. I think they end up liking it once they get there, but it just means so much to the others

I think one of the reasons playing for Team USA isn't such a huge point of pride is because it's seen as an individual achievement rather than a team thing. And it's like that from the youth levels in basically all sports.

I can think of two sports in California high school state-level post-season competition that is guaranteed pure, fair and excellent, without dispute — track and field and wrestling. I suppose I’m missing others. Basketball seeding is a train wreck. Lose vanity and change.
