Amaya Battle - a local kid, has played her entire college career at Minnesota. Her final shot inside Williams Arena sends the Gophers to the Sweet-16. That’s a beautiful thing.

When college coaches contact scouts like me and @pghbyron , it's rarely the stats or highlights they ask about. Instead, their questions focus on the intangibles, the qualities that speak to a player's value and long-term potential. They want to know: What kind of student is this prospect? Are they diligent about their academics—do they carry a solid GPA, and what’s their work ethic like in the classroom? They probe beyond grades, seeking insight into responsibility and commitment. Coaches will ask about integrity and character off the field: Can this athlete be trusted? Are they loyal? How do they treat others when no one's watching? Are they respected by their peers and coaches for their honesty and accountability? What's their bench presence? How do they behave when they're not in the spotlight—do they support teammates, stay positive, and contribute to team culture even when not playing? The bottom line is this: Talent might get athletes noticed, but it is character that truly gets them recruited. Athletes—work to develop not just the athletic skills, but the entire package. Be coachable, stay focused in school, show humility, and be integritous. It’s the whole person, not just the stats, that opens the door to college athletics.

For all athletes wondering what to do when you’re not getting a lot of playing time this is it! Stay ready - Get Ready- then when the time is called to play big minutes you are ready.
