Sports make a great game - but a terrible God. Listen carefully if you’re an athlete… One day the season will end. One day the career will end. One day the applause will stop. If your identity is in the game, you’ll feel lost when the game is gone. But if your identity is in God, the game simply becomes a platform. Sports are meant to be played. They were never meant to be worshipped. Train hard. Compete with excellence. Honor God with your effort. But never forget: Your purpose is bigger than your performance. “You shall have no other gods before me.” {Exodus 20:3}

Coaches, look me in my eyes. Stop letting them bully you. You answer to the people that hired you and those stakeholders that genuinely are about the program, not just their way. You have what it takes. Trust your vision and make it happen. They hired you for a reason.

To the wiggle monsters and lateral drill artists—this is the non-negotiable foundation before any COD work: The mentality AND the technical ability to attack vertically with full commitment. No vertical threat = no respect = no space to wiggle. Get violent north-south first.

The day before Spring Break, and also the morning after a late night track meet. “Culture Day” The best day of the year to see your culture. Do they show up… or sleep in and start Spring Break early? #3031

I texted a coach this morning and asked how the new job was going after about a month. His response was one I’ve heard many times… and lived myself: “Not bad. Some kids pushing back culture wise. Always worried about staff and numbers.” If you go into a program and start making the changes that need to be made, be ready for pushback. That’s normal. My advice to him: Water the good grass. Don’t let the weeds hold you hostage. Too many coaches start looking the other way because they want to keep players and coaches happy. They convince themselves they can slowly change the culture. It doesn’t work that way. Culture doesn’t drift in the right direction. It moves toward the standard you enforce. Stay strong to your principles. The right grass will grow. 🌱🏈 @fastnwide

This is a great convo that is being had. I’m glad others are seeing it and discussing it. Play as many as you can, for as long as you can kiddos. The adults made it this way, not the kids. Everyone is not a football player but find something else to try while in high school.
