I’ve seen undersized Linebackers who were great at defeating blocks. It had nothing to do with their size… Or their strength… They beat blocks by being: Decisive. Smart. Quick. When you attack without hesitation, you’re tough to block.

Joe Montana wasn’t supposed to make it. In 1975, he was last on the depth chart at Notre Dame - even behind two walk-ons. • 7th string as a freshman. • Struggled to see the field. • Missed 1976 with a separated shoulder. • Started 1977 as 3rd string. • Led 3 legendary comeback wins in 1977. • Finished with a national championship in 1977. Montana said, “So much credence was put on how you practice. And how you practice is how you play.” He studied relentlessly, learned every protection, and stayed ready for his moment. When it came - he delivered. “Don’t complain about not getting a chance and then be unprepared when you finally do.” – Joe Montana

The Pyramid of Elite Performance™ Optimal performance is built from the ground up, not the top down. Ego discipline is the foundation that allows growth and coaching. Alignment connects the individual to the system and reduces friction, and talent sits on top as the visible output. Each layer amplifies the next. It's hard to be low maintenance if you have an ego, and talent only scales as high as the foundation beneath it is strong.

Urban Meyer says the quiet part out loud. Be the best player on your high school team first. Development > camps. Mastery > 7-on-7 trophies. College coaches recruit game tape, not weekends.

Like many others, been saying it for years. Anyone who discourages your child from playing multiple sports does not have your child’s best interests in mind. Period.

Early specialization is overrated. Generalists excel over time. Data on >34k stars in sports, music, science, and chess: Focusing on a single field predicts a faster rise, but cross-training foreshadows a higher peak. The most successful adults start off as well-rounded kids.

Jonathan Haidt dropped a pretty blunt warning about giving young kids iPads or phones. He says we’ve all discovered how incredibly effective they are as pacifiers — they work almost instantly. But that’s exactly the problem. 40% of American two-year-olds already have their own iPad. Once a child gets used to constant stimulation, they basically never learn how to be bored. The moment they have even 30 seconds of downtime, they start screaming for the device. Haidt’s advice is straightforward: If you haven’t started, don’t. If you already have, take it away. It might take 3–4 weeks for the brain to readjust, but it’s worth it. He’s even hearing stories of preschoolers crying at drop-off — not because mom is leaving, but because the iPad is staying in the car. It’s a sobering reminder of how quickly these devices rewire young brains and create real addiction patterns. Have you noticed this with kids in your life, or are you trying to hold the line on screens with little ones?
