I share E+R=O lessons in my Daily Discipline newsletter. E+R=O means Event + Response = Outcome. If you use E+R=O or want to learn more, then it's worth subscribing. But in case you don't, here's one of this week's lessons: It's easy to acknowledge and accept that we don't control events. It's harder to admit the same is true for outcomes. We want to believe that, with the right response, we can control the outcome. We can engineer it, command it, or force it. But if that were true, what would your life look like right now? If you had control of outcomes, wouldn't things be different? That's the first lesson of E+R=O. That's always the first lesson, no matter the audience. Before the skills, strategies, and techniques. Before the examples and applications. You must accept the fixed truth of the physics of E+R=O. You don't control events. You don't control outcomes. You control your response. You can earn outcomes you desire. But you can't control them.

As an AD, no matter how hard you work to create equality across all sports, there will always be someone who believes you care more about another sport than theirs. The reality is that supporting every program matters, even when the perception does not always match the work being done.

Here's 84 seconds of a team passing and dribbling in a state championship game. Ohio is one of 18 states that does not utilize a shot clock at the high school level.

@nv_hoops Stars drive crowds to games. With the decrease in big name recruits to colleges, because they're going to the portal first, interest from the more casual fan (not attached to a team still in the tournament) &the fact that Ohio is no longer at one location for the weekend is bad

Michigan d1 final crowd. No question about it that Ohio HS hoops is better. So why does their state tournament trump ours?

@JJSullinger We just battled the top team in the conference/country down to the wire again 2 of our 3 matchups this season vs UM have been tight til the end. In the last month this team, which battled injuries, has come together to prove we ARE worthy of competing with the best! H8ters beware

My honest thoughts on Ohio State’s fanbase.. I think because we are so entrenched with all things football… I believe a lot of us view our basketball season as such.. (Stay with me…) In football… You can’t lose too many games (if any) to consider it a successful season..
