“Your character will take you further than your resume. Continue to be kind. Continue to be humble.” NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal shares an inspiring message with graduates during Louisiana State University’s commencement ceremony after receiving his own master’s degree from LSU. The Hall of Famer laid out five key rules for the graduates to live by, emphasizing resilience, humility, and continuous learning. O’Neal encouraged students to keep learning, embrace failure as motivation, and understand that persistence is essential to achieving success.

KO-KR Avoid Drill - The primary objective of the kickoff coverage drill is for the cover man to make the blocker miss. - To set up the drill, establish a five-yard wide starting area with two cones placed about three yards apart, located eight to ten yards downfield. - The coverage man's goal is to successfully navigate past the blocker and score by finishing between the set cones. - Coaches should teach players to use an eye stun to set up their move before attempting to beat the blocker. - One method to bypass the blocker is using speed combined with a dip and rip technique to get around them. - Another effective technique shown is slipping past the blocker's posterior or "back-dooring" them based on the blocker's momentum. LB Scrape Spill Tackle Drill - The scrape spill drill integrates movement skills, block destruction, and tackling into a single exercise. - Linebackers should maintain a downhill path with square shoulders while staying tight to the double team pole. - Proper hand placement for the spill technique requires one hand on the blocker's sternum and the other on the outside of the shoulder pad. - Players must plant their outside foot in the ground to quickly redirect and get back vertical toward the ball carrier. - Coaches should emphasize keeping the eyes up during contact to ensure players see what they are hitting rather than ducking their heads. - The ultimate goal of the drill is to avoid going one-for-one by being violent enough to shed the pulling blocker and make the tackle. Every staff organizes game day a little differently. Here’s our Friday Home Game Timeline from arrival to kickoff. Might help a young coach organizing things for the first time.

If you use GameChanger, you’re probably looking at the wrong stats. Most players and parents focus on batting average, hits, ERA… the scoreboard stuff. Those numbers tell you what already happened. But they don’t tell you if you’re actually getting better. The best players I coached at the Division-1 level weren’t obsessing over those numbers. They were tracking process stats. Things that actually predict future success. The late Mark Marquess at Stanford used to say: “You can’t change the spots on a cheetah.” Meaning your habits show up later. If you throw strikes now, you’ll throw strikes later. If you strike out a lot now, that usually follows you too. Development leaves clues. Here are a few examples of better things to track. Hitters Quality At-Bat % (strong is around 65%+) Pitches seen per plate appearance (elite hitters are around 4) Walk to strikeout ratio Pitchers Strike percentage Pitch efficiency First pitch strike % Tarik Skubal was 71.5% last season! The point is this. GameChanger tracks a lot of stats. But development usually comes down to mentality and approach. If we as athletes can focus more on what’s controllable and less on what’s uncontrollable, we’ll be mentally healthier and make better progress inside our own process. Keep playing the long game. As winter sports are winding down, ADs should gather information from Head Coaches. Here's a form that can be a great post-season tool. Maybe it can help someone out today.

Don't say: ❌ "Thanks for letting me know." ❌ Don't ghost them. Getting rejected from a job can feel like a punch to the gut. But here's the mindset shift most people miss: A rejection email is not a closed door. It's an opportunity to leave a strong, lasting impression. ✅ Respond with this instead Instead of disappearing or sending a generic reply, use the moment to: 1. Show appreciation for the opportunity Thank them for their time and consideration. Professionalism is always remembered. 2. Reference something specific from the conversation A project, a value, or a topic you discussed. This shows genuine interest, not desperation. 3. Keep the door intentionally open Hiring needs change all the time. When they do, you want to be the candidate they remember. Most people ghost after rejection. The ones who don't? They stand out. Sometimes the follow-up after a "no" is what leads to the real opportunity later on.
