OK, I want to hear a New Year's Eve story from YOU PEOPLE. I'll go first. This happened on New Year's Eve, 1980. I had seen an ad for a New Year's Eve special at a relatively expensive restaurant in Roanoke called Luigi's, and it had a lot of good stuff on it for only $19.99 for two people. My then girlfriend and I got dressed up, headed over to be there for our reservation, and looked forward to a great evening. Unfortunately, I didn't read the ad closely and it turns out this was for an appetizer tray for 2. To have a full dinner would have cost more than I could afford at the time, and as I was trying to figure out what to do, my future wife said "don't worry about it, let's just eat this and go back to your house. " I swore to myself this would never happen again and over the years would more than make up for it with expensive dinners, parties, etc. But in 1980, we went back to my house, scrounged up some snacks, watched North Carolina play Texas in the Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl, and had a lot of fun making the most of it. As I drove her home, we both mentioned the evening turned out much better than had we followed the original plan. Three months later we got married. And on every New Year's Eve since, we both remember the night an Italian guy didn't correctly read the ad for an Italian Restaurant, and we were instead forced to watch football and eat snacks while waiting for fireworks and a huge ball to drop in New York City :)
