The Coaching Life Questions To Ask 1) Am I “where my feet are?” …Do I do this job well every second until I am not at this job 2) What do I stand for? No…Really…Not “coach speak” what do u really truly stand for and can everyone see it? Or is it just words 3) Do I coach details…Like every single practice snap? Or do I just scream when the lack of details exposed our inadequacies? When details are coached consistently it always shows up 4) Am I a “Blamer” or am I a “Take Responsibility” coach …Be honest 5) If I leave tomorrow would the program be better or worse because I was here? 6) When I reach my “coaching grave” and players, parents, fans, administrators, and fellow coaches stand over my casket…What will they say? And which group matters the most? The ones who “really know u?” Or the ones that think they know u based on an image? 7) Did u do something good today for another human who could never repay u? Or did u bypass that opportunity to compliment the human who never gets compliments, or fail to buy the lunch for the human who can’t afford their lunch, or call the coach to promote your assistants dream of being a coordinator at another school while knowing you would lose a valuable asset to your program, or stick a hundred bill into your assistants pant pockets because u know he can’t buy his kids a birthday present…Do Good No Repay 8) Did u give gratitude this am when u awoke for the countless blessings u have, especially the opportunity to radically change the lives for better of people u see today

OC/Head Coach/Play-callers…Never Believe for one minute it’s only YOU…Had a great season? Averaged 40 plus ppg? Labeled a GURU? Believed IT? Every Call was Magical? ….Wake Up…One player graduates, Is Injured?? One Assistant Coach leaves for a better paying job? One coach causes friction amongst the staff? Head Coach Becomes jealous of your publicity ? Coaches wives begin to gossip about your wife? You suddenly become a media star? You drink more? You don’t keep your health a priority? You feel invincible? Reality Dose…It’s never Just You!! One single fluctuation from that magical season or two or three can end your “Guru Status” overnight…Be Humble…Work Smarter…Give Praise to Everyone else publicly( Be blunt and correct staff when needed and fire when it’s the best solution for the team)…Be Grateful…Do Good for Others Who can Never Repay u…Ask Better Questions…ABT ( Always Be Teaching)…Never Let Correcting the most minute Detail “Slide By”… Make a Dramatic and Positive Difference in the lives of the young people u coach…Don’t be the typical phony who says “I love all my players” and then never connect with them again when they transfer or quit or struggle…Lifetime Coaching is a mixture of success and failures and everyone gets to watch u in public do both…Know who u are and then adjust when u are wrong or it isn’t working…Never forget as a coach, teacher, educator…Loyalty doesn’t mean blind following of the leader…Want to be loyal? Want Loyalty? Be Blunt and Brutally honest( to others and to yourself) and yet in a respectful manner to all leadership…But Blind loyalty to u or to anyone is failure and weakness…When someone honestly points out your flaws listen, be appreciative, and if they are correct be grateful they were strong enough to tell u…

I think looking inside ourselves gives us a true understanding of what stresses us out to engaging the events that have made a negative impact on who we became. I would like to think at some point we have to finally ask ourselves, when will we die? Are you willing to care about the negative things that impacted you when you are on your death bed?
