🗣 HS COACHES: please stop trying to convince sprinters and hurdles that them running a 4 month cross country season is good for them because it will get them “in shape”. Training for DISTANCE is the exact opposite of training for SPEED.

I agree. I would also even say for lower tier programs to stop turning away talented kids just because they aren’t under a certain standard even though you don’t even have someone on the roster currently that’s hitting those marks.
Speed & Hurdle Coach@Tier1athlete

@Part4 At the same time, lower-tier programs stop Holding out for portal kids that become available in May. Also, stop trying to chase after performances that are P4 level when we all know those kids are going to a P4 & not choosing a mid-major.

One of my athletes broke their finger. And the doctor suggested they don’t run for 2-3 weeks…..excuse me. What?!

Last Friday my team had a meet and it was cold low 40° and windy. We still had multiple personal bests in sprints, jumps, and hurdles. Including 3 school records. Not one kid went into that meet afraid to not perform well because of the weather. Dawg mentality 😤

@FlashPerform In times like thekat I recognize it and make practice plans where my more mature athletes can handle a certain task/workout without much direction which would allow me to show more attention to athletes that need it

@CoachRDukes This is a tough one. Especially in the team setting because it’s possible that your slowest person needs more attention and not just the same amount.

If you’re not showing the “slowest” person on your team, the same amount of attention as your fastest, then you’re coaching for the wrong reasons and not actually developing your athletes

@WickerMike Not sure how you deciphered what I said that way. But no. What I mean is, the bottom of your depth chart is just as important as the top. You have to show them attention and be able to develop them because some athletes have the potential to be much more

@CoachRDukes So a football or a basketball coach should give equal reps to the kid who never gets off the bench as the all state kid?

@CoachTyHoover I don’t even have athletes run 4 events unless 1) they express they want more and 2) it’s a “workout” meet and I’m preparing them for championships meets where they have to run multiple rounds of an event

@CoachRDukes Constant issue here I’ve seen, I’m trying to recruit kids but coaches are more eager to “win” the random Tuesday meet in the middle of the year and won’t put athletes in any open events only relays. That doesn’t help them long term!!

If you’re putting kids in events just so that the team can score points instead of putting them in events where they have a chance to be more competitive and actually run better then your coaching for the wrong reasons and not actually developing your athletes

Coaches: How do you stay humble when you consistently produce great athletes and continue to create a program that develops athletes to be successful ? My work speaks for itself. My athletes speak even louder. I know I’m good at what I do.

🚨Attn: high school football coaches. Stop having MANDATORY football lifts during track season and expect track guys who are in season to be there.

Many of my kids posted top 10 and even top 3 times in the state. We’re only in the beginning stages 😏. My 400 kid said “coach I can’t believe I ran that fast and we haven’t even started our speed endurance work” - he gets it now 👿

I’m so proud of my kiddos. They showed up and showed out at states today. What a year. A full roster of pr’s. And 7 school records were broke. This was only my first season with the team. The best is yet to come
