Years ago, a Nike exec told me that JKidd is gonna get fired from every coaching job he gets because for as good as he is at X’s & O’s and player development, over time he becomes insufferable and his personality starts to weigh on people.

@BankHoops Think it has more to do with the American System…which AAU is a part of. But it’s bigger than AAU.

So the example to bash AAU is to promote the back-to-back MVP ... who played AAU in the American system, EYBL?
Are 24-year-old professional Euros better than 18-year-old amateur Americans? Yes. But that's not because of a "superior system." USA AAU kids and alumni dominate FIBA at every age.

If a player isn’t lost in the game…I don’t see how he can play his best for his team.

@CoachRexWalters It certainly did work out well for u Rex. As a college coach, I saw a number of prospects be negatively impacted. Ur relationship with ur dad had a lot to do with how u responded.

I’m not saying I’m perfect but my father yelled at me from the top of the bleachers every game until about the 12th Grade. He had high standards and thank goodness. He made me tougher, smarter and more competitive.

@GGrensing27723 Valid. My father focused on Effort and Decision Making (making the right play). Worked out pretty good for me. Team wasn’t affected. Actually, I wasn’t affected. I wasn’t one to look up in the stands. lol.

@CoachRexWalters Accountability is a priority. Also, IMO, the player should hear one voice during practices and games and that is his coach. If there is more than one voice, it can lead to the player having to make choices

Very appreciative for who he shaped in me as a player. Not every dad can do this I understand. I’m just thankful for mine!
Now for all you parents that don’t know basketball…let your coach coach. Lol. And if you think you know…you probably don’t. Hahaha.
