It’s hard to find a better player to watch anywhere when Jack Byrne is at his best! 💫 It was a Jack Byrne masterclass tonight for Shamrock Rovers in their win over Derry City. A much-needed but very impressive victory, with Rovers full value for the three points. They dominated large spells of the game and thoroughly deserved the win. I thought Aaron Brennan was absolutely brilliant on the left-hand side, constantly driving at the defence, winning a penalty and being direct for the full 90 minutes. Victor Ozhianvuna was also excellent for Rovers, always looking to get on the ball and make things happen. But Byrne was on a different level to everyone on the pitch. He kept finding pockets of space, receiving the ball on the half-turn and making things happen. The ball looked glued to his feet and it felt like watching a prime Jack Byrne again. When he’s at his best, he’s not just brilliant to watch - he’s simply a brilliant footballer. If we see this version of Byrne throughout the season, we’re in for a real treat.

@TheIrishKieran Can't make any sense of this. What is the complaint about? It seems like they decided not to make the move so what's the issue? Why was the complaint made to the FA? Why does Paul Rowan keep saying Shamrock?

They’ve persuaded him to do it. Brennan deal just announced. Sensible move for him as a natural progression.

@Aaronruss03 @betweenstripes Yep I'd agree, will be interesting to see how much faith is put in the young players too. Ozhianvuna, Kovalevskis, Vassenin and Barrett/J. O'Sullivan as you mentioned could all contribute this season. Corey and Michael Noonan showed the impact young players can have last year.

@CoachRoche_ @betweenstripes We definitely need a good wingback who can add goal contributions especially with josh gone and possibly a striker if Noonan decides to take the hoffenheim move this month but could do with a striker regardless cause Noonan will go now or in july

Robbie Keane getting a new striker - who scored twice vs Shamrock Rovers. Big fee for a player with a track record of seemingly only able to produce in Slovenia. (but his 2025 stats are absurd) Celje doing some fantastic business, while also succeeding on the pitch.

@TheIrishKieran The stats are wrong. Their keeper pulled off a great save from Honohan's header in the first half. And Gaffney hit a shot wide seconds later. But yes we've been poor going forward second half.

@OCowzer Very tight. Thought it was well outside in real view (from the north stand mind) but the replay looks as if it was on the line.

Another line discussion at another game. Ed McGinty handles the ball reaching back into his area, looks to be on the line (inside the box). Ref gives a free and sends off McGinty.

It would be great to see both get in, but would it not make more sense for a joint effort? Klub Kildare seem to have done great work gearing up for a senior LOI side but Station Road is the perfect location/ground to use.
