@TerryBattenberg I moved a guy who was struggled with fouls to coming off the bench and since then, he’s averaging 3 fouls a game and getting into a rhythm finally
English

@brianmccormick That would make things interesting lol. No bail outs.
English

@CoachTHoyt Really? It’s more relaxed now. You used to have to tell the scorekeeper ahead of time so when you were scored against, the scorekeeper called timeout. It’s the same rule but now you can run to scorekeeper as your inbounding and usually get the TO. No timeout after you score.
English

Coaches should not be allowed to run on the court to call a timeout to bail out a player who has picked up the dribble or dribbled into trouble. #FIBARules. No live-ball timeouts.
English

@reidouse Understand that. And agree. If you watch any HS games lately (I coach varsity basketball). You’ll notice guys stand, and it isn’t holding space unfortunately.
But yea I agree with all of what you’re saying.
English

You can cut to create space, but you can also cut to lose space. The 2nd part is where players get into trouble.
The idea of "don't stand and watch" is generally started when players are young and not very good at handling the basketball. Coaches yell that to get players to come help the ball handler.
But as players get older and more skilled, they need space.
I often use this example (I used it last night actually) - let's say you and I are playing tag and you have to tag me. Do you want to play on a basketball court or in a hotel hallway?
You would obviously want to play in a hotel hallway, because it's much less space to cover. It's much easier for you.
Now think about basketball. When we are constantly cutting/moving, it is unlikely that we have players spread out wide. We want to force the defense to have to defend as much space as possible.
The next time you watch a game on TV, watch how often a player gets to the corner opposite of the ball and just stands there. That player is serving a purpose. He is forcing his or her defender to guard that space, which should free up space for the ball handler/other teammates

Brother I do this for high school hoops and get paid diddly squat for it 😂 😂

Indiana basketball head coach Darian DeVries is a workhorse. Said after last night's game, he went home and re-watched the game and THEN watched Maryland film. "In my mind, I want to have everything ready for our coaching staff the next day as we prep for the next game." #iubb

College basketball is cooked. What the hell are we doing??

NEWS: 7-foot center James Nnaji, the No. 31 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, has committed to Baylor, source told @on3. The 21-year-old big man will play the second half of the season and has been granted four years of eligibility by the NCAA. on3.com/news/7-foot-ce…

@CoachHackGO Can be either. Probably a call early and a taught read. Great Princeton action.
English

@CoachMitch_2 Same when they say “you have no head coach experience, when you were the lead assistant 3 different state contenders” lol
English

@Thr33ntheKeyPod @TheHoopHerald Always room to develop the developed skills lol. That’s what pros do in season anyway. Double down on things they’re really good at and get them paid lol
English

@CoachTHoyt @TheHoopHerald You are probably right, I think of warm ups as getting reps on already developed skills though
English

@Thr33ntheKeyPod @TheHoopHerald Can you not do skill dev during warm ups?
English

@TheHoopHerald Is this part of the skills development or just warm up? That's the main question, i'd wager this is just reps/warm up for pros, real work is in simulating game situations

I am in Idaho Falls at the Mountain America Center for the September IHSAA Board of Directors meeting. I will have updates as the meeting moves along.
The big topics today:
- Classification Petition approvals/denials
- Final Reading on adding in the Kibbie Dome to the State Wrestling rotation.
- Final Reading on the proposed Playoff Expansion.

@RirieBulldogsAD Thanks for covering. Do we know what the 6A bracket looks like that was approved?
English

Final Reading: Rule 2-5 Representation
This is the playoff expansion proposal. This rule applies to volleyball, soccer, basketball, and softball.
Here is a screen shot of the new proposed rule itself.
6A is NOT included in this. An alternate 6A bracket has already been approved.
The individual sports will remain as is with representation.
Football brackets will be capped at 12 teams total.
If you are in a 2-team conference, you will get an automatic berth to a play-in game. If you are ranked in the Top 8 of MaxPreps rankings, you will earn a berth to state.
This will VASTLY change how state tournaments are conducted in the state of Idaho. This will also change the end dates for district tournaments as they will now need to be earlier than they have been previously to accommodate for the state play-in games.
