Coaches and Parents: Please teach your athletes how to be professional. I get too many messages that start with: “What’s up?” “What’s good?” Or calling me “bro.” Those messages get no response. I’m not your homie. This is a job interview. You are marketing yourself.

My guy Dayton Jenkins got on NCAA D2 Western Oregon’s radar last fall at their elite camp. They followed him throughout the year, and he signed with them last week.

Attending elite camps are valuable and an important part of the evaluation process for our staff. We evaluate, have an education session with parents, and do not roll the ball out. The narrative with elite camps is concerning. Colleges have the scholarship opportunities!

Final program of the night at No. 123 is South Alabama! The Jaguars are one of the winningest mid-major programs of all-time, with 13 regular season conference championships. They’ve been to March Madness 8 times, winning 1 game. Most of their bids came from the late 70s to 90s as they dominated Sun Belt play. Head coaches Cliff Ellis and Ronnie Arrow were crucial to their play. They’ve missed out on the big dance for the last two decades, but continue to be a winning program with four 20-win seasons in their last seven.

It’s not impossible, but you have to be realistic. It’s June 13th. Fall classes start in a little over two months. If you’re still waiting on a “full ride” that hasn’t been offered yet, you may still be sitting at home when classes begin.

Most scholarships outside of NCAA D1 are packaged through a combination of academic aid, FAFSA grants, and athletic money. Together, those can equal a “full ride,” but most are not full athletic scholarships alone. Some may still need loans to cover tuition. Some may not.

We (@wpuknights) play in one of the best NAIA Conferences in the country. 5 teams (out of 11) from the Cascade Conference (@CCCSports) made it to the National Tournament this year. College of Idaho has won two National Championships out of the last four years. Come compete!
