Football players would be much better at tackling if they practiced year-round with only these types of drills. They need THOUSANDS of reps to understand how to use their body, maintain proper pad level and footwork, and learn how important it is to strike the ground hard with the lead foot to generate force. This is an easy and far more effective way to learn tackling without pads while avoiding injuries. Shoulder pads and helmets can hinder learning because they naturally cause the defender and runner to compensate upon contact. The focus ends up being on the contact, rather than FEELING the proper technique. Using these pads thousands of times lets you learn what it feels like to absorb and deliver contact. Proper feet placement and force into the growing is a critical detail that I see few coaches understand or emphasize.

This one is pretty special to me because not only is this man a mentor to so many, an inspiration to others, and a voice for the voiceless, I consider him a true friend. I am very certain that I am not the only one in this industry of sports that feels the same way about @ChrisGilbert_1 Notice I said “sports” and not just football. Chris Gilbert has impacted so many lives by using his platform as a football coach but his purpose and his impact go way beyond the lines on the football field. How the DFW donut cartel works (because you care): There's a donut shop on every corner here. And they all get donuts from the same wholesaler, delivered at 3am daily... ...except for one. That one exception is called Max's Donuts in Allen. BEST DONUTS IN THE WORLD! Made on site. Always fresh, dense and chewy. Are they paying me to tweet this? HECK NO! Their donuts are like $1.19 and weigh a pound. They can't afford any marketing. And they don't need it. Their product sells itself. Line out the door. They don't know who I am, but I've spent thousands there. They've been run by the same family forever. Good people. Better donuts. All made on site. I want to see them win. If you love small businesses run by great people and live within a 12 hour drive, go eat at Max's. They deserve your business. I've never had a better donut.
