@PaulKilby1611 @SlotTMafia I would be losing my mind at the refs the entire game if they let this stuff go on the regular.
English

@CoachYashinsky @SlotTMafia Nah we are set!! 😉 Yeah, we are pushing the envelope a little on that one. We usually get called once or twice a game. But we don’t let that slow us down.

@TravisBOUND Was Flesch a stand out DB/RB at Pulaski before going on to play at UWSP?

Scheel played at the state tournament with Stoughton in 2013. #wisbb

Officials for this game are: Tommie Williams (De Pere) Jared Flesch (Waunakee) Austin Scheel (Madison) All Air Max 2017's in this one. Unsure if that was planned or coincidental. #wisbb

@TravisBOUND @mmerg The kids getting out of school is a real thing as sad as it sounds... if they get out of school they will pay $25 for a fan bus and $15 for a ticket... if it doesn't get them out of school-- a lot will opt out.

Having all of the D1 teams be repeat or recent state qualifiers doesn't help attendance. Those fan sections tend to be smaller than those from communities who have not experienced the state tourney recently. Several of this year's D1's also have been at state in multiple sports recently, which can add to the "well, maybe I won't go this time" idea for some. A lack of GB-area teams overall, and especially in the D1 & D2 field, didn't help either.
But D1/2 have been trending downward in boys and girls for a few years now. I think I brought it up on the podcast earlier this year also, but I wonder how much the expanded regular season schedule, which has allowed some GREAT regular season games to occur, has taken the shine off some of the buzz and uniqueness of the state tourney. The top teams are now playing each other with regularity; we don't have to wait for the state tourney for that anymore.
Similar consideration for streaming as well, with people able to watch anyone any time all year, not needing to rely on the state tourney to see the top teams and players.
Streaming in general has had a negative effect on attendance, though isn't reserved to D1-2.
And matchups/qualifiers matter; the WIAA got a near perfect storm of qualifiers in D3-5, with a lot of fresh faces and few private schools.
The ideal state tourney qualifier from a state tournament attendance standpoint is a single high school public district near the Fox Valley area that hasn't been to state in a while.
I have opined that switching D1 to one of the daytime sessions could be helpful; those students would be more likely to come if they get off school and can ride a fan bus. In small towns, it doesn't matter what time the game is, they're going to be there. Maybe go 5, 1, 2 on Friday? Or, we've got a bit of a radical thought we're going to explore on the podcast soon.
Anyways, those are my meandering thoughts.

The good:
D3, D4, D5 all very strong, near or above any in last 10 years.
The bad:
- D2 & D1 semis down considerably
- D1/2 Sat. session would likely have been down anyways, but weather helped really limit it. Lowest in 40 years
- Overall, 3rd lowest in last 10 years

@GovEvers @BadgerMBB In the sweet 16, Wisconsin is playing… no one?
English

@CoachRusso2001 I have no idea. But I think they should take all of the 160lb soccer players in their school and put them at “edge” and prove me wrong.
English

@CoachYashinsky I’m gonna go out on limb,,.. they were mostly 35 and under
English

@CoachRusso2001 Good because it made a bunch of others think I was the worst villain they had ever seen
English

@coachCJohnson88 You can call it boring.... but it is really freaking hard to defend. And its not uncommon to see those teams at state running Wing T, Triple. Down in FL, go schedule Deland-- you'll see some old school football there.
English

@CoachYashinsky Man, that’s some boring football. That might be HS in Wi but that ain’t HS football in Fl.
English

@CoachDeeKay @RobertScott_BHS He wanted to rush the passer... that is all he wanted to do-- and 1. we don't hardly ever see the pass 2. He weighs 160lbs going into junior year. 3. he plays soccer...
English

@CoachYashinsky @RobertScott_BHS Edge can also be OLB you coulda had him play OLB while teaching him the nuances and differences.
My guys know that an defensive end for me in a 4 down front is also and outside backer in a 3 down front
English

@WingTCoachRyan Holmen is flexbone, Medford is power I
Dansk

@CoachYashinsky Assuming Reedsburg is the Wing-T team. Who are the flex and Power-I opponents?
English

@chargerz_mafia @jmuhski Well the kid hasn't played football before and plays soccer.... so i don't think thats the case here. Also... we aren't changing what we do based on a kid who is not in the program's preference or madden experience.
English

@jmuhski @CoachYashinsky If your players are good enough, you can run a 3-5 with a wide 9
English

@RobertScott_BHS @WingRaidCoach And we did educate him... and once he realized that we get to rush the passer about 10% of the season..... he decided he was going to stay with Soccer. His idea was line up at Edge- rush the passer every play like Micah Parsons... unrealistic expectation of football.
English

@WingRaidCoach @CoachYashinsky As a coach it’s HIS job to explain that and educate. I mean… that is a part of coaching. 🤷🏾
English

@RobertScott_BHS I said, I think LB would be a good spot to look at-- he said I'm too small to play LB, I think I could play Edge.... I said I don't think you understand what that is in high school.
English

@RobertScott_BHS No, I never had the kid in the first place because he plays a different sport and thought he was going to line up 4 yards outside the tackle in a Wide 9 like he played for Jim Johnson's Defense-- and he weighed 160lbs...

@TheGridironHQ Amazon KDP is self publishing. So we have a page for all different things like season records, career records, each season has a page (prior to 2012 when I took over the pages are less detailed)
I add the state record book into the end of it. It’s about 110 pages long.
