We were not THAT stupid when we played Pokemon as kids. Given the information, experience and tools we had, we actually did pretty well. Setup moves are not needed for a regular run, power leveling your starter is time efficient.

@JustKrincy I remember doing a challenge with a friend on our 2nd/3rd playthrough of Platinum, where we would battle after every 1-2 gyms. After the 3rd gym, he came at me with a team of torterra and 2 others at ~lvl55. That MF grinded for a whole week straight, after losing to me twice

A lot of the roasts of children playing Pokemon is with Nuzlocke in mind, which we did not even think about back in the day, because why would we? You end up thinking less of leveling evenly if you...have to actually grind to do it without rare candies and speed-up emulation.
