@JohnCarrier42 I’ve done both. I see the benefit for each. It’s hard to have set rules because there always a “it depends” moment. I like the staying because spacing is better and you don’t get the weave stuff to start happening. But do think you miss out on some driving opportunities.

Hot Take: I often see drive/space coaches who are adamant about staying deep corner. Holding the corner on the drive as a hard and fast rule isn't effective because in reality you end up with guys hiding behind the defense at tomes. Have to move to find passable windows.

Tried calling & texting to offer a kid that’s unsigned… their phone is on Do Not Disturb… at 1:45pm on a Saturday. Moved to the next one on the list. It’s almost August… RECRUITS - TAKE YOUR PHONE OFF OF DND IF YOU’RE TRYING TO CAPITALIZE ON AN OPPORTUNITY!!! Don’t miss your chance!

🚨D2 & high school coaches this one’s for you🚨 No Sportscode? No problem. I built this last night and you can even use it on an iPad during the game!! Very similar to what I built in Sportscode this week. Track live: -PPP -FG% -Possessions by play -With history of what happened Every tagged possession updates the dashboard, so by halftime you know what’s working. Better answers. Faster decisions.

@DaCoachsBox Make sure you aren’t trying to do too much. I found taking over 8 different programs in my career, that “Doing Simple Better” was usually the key. Fundamentals, and basics in offense and defense made us play better and focus on the important parts of the game early on. 😊

As an AD, remind your athletes as we head into preseason practice, here are a few reminders that will help make this season a successful one. Coaches make decisions based on what they believe is best for the team. Trust the process, even when you don’t always understand every decision. Being held accountable is a privilege. It means your coaches believe in your potential and are investing in your growth. Being coached means they see something in you worth developing. Learn from both winning and losing. Success builds confidence, and adversity builds character. Both are valuable teachers. Be a great teammate. Encourage others, celebrate their success, and put the team ahead of yourself. The work you put in this summer will reveal itself this fall. There are no shortcuts. Preparation always shows. Learn to struggle well. Every athlete faces challenges. How you respond to adversity will define you more than any scoreboard. Never quit on your teammates. They are counting on your commitment, effort, and attitude every single day. Give your best effort daily. You can control your attitude, your work ethic, and how you compete. Finally, remember this is your season, not your parents’ season. Take ownership of your experience, embrace the challenges, and make the most of every opportunity. Have a great season, compete with pride, and represent your school with character, class, and commitment.

Parents of athletes want perfection from their coaches. They pound on the first mistake. They don’t expect perfection from their spouse, their kids, their boss, their jobs, their coworkers, but let a football basketball baseball coach make a mistake and they immediately want something done. I find that oddly fascinating.

@DelCurrent Coaches’ brains need to be studied man…only profession that insists there’s only one “right way” to do everything. As if there aren’t hundreds of variations of chocolate chip cookies that all 100% slap. 😂

Make a bet on improvement and development. Instead of "we can't so we won't" think "we can't right now, but that is what practice is for." Are you willing to bet on your coaching and learning environment?

“Twenty-nine former Bear Bryant assistants went on to become head coaches. Twenty-seven of them got fired. You can learn from a guy like Bear Bryant, but no one can be like him, no matter how hard they try. Each person must be himself.” - Bobby Bowden

I once drove to a KMart in West Virginia (five hours away) to get a copy of NCAA Football 2004 because the store manager was willing to sell it a day early. Then I’d mail a memory card to DT Linder across the country and wait three weeks for a fully customized roster to hit my mailbox. Now I just fire up my PS5, the game is already downloaded, rosters are already named and we’re good to go. God bless America 🇺🇸 🎮
