I said more often than not. I never said good teams don’t ever turn it over. So why does anybody anywhere even have a shot clock then? Under your thinking why can’t teams just always “get up and play D” I mean under your thinking they’ll just turn teams over so why even have a shot clock? Maybe it’s because they found whether it’s Pro, college, and now even HS (we installed it in KS 2 years ago. Everyone loves it-even the naysayers love it now) maybe everyone found that teams hold the ball late game? And it makes the game worse not better.

@Coach_Runyan @ByRyanWood That is BS and you know it. I have seen good teams turn the ball over hundreds of times because of pressure defense. The longer you have to avoid it the more likely you will tun the ball over. It is a complete fallacy to say good teams don't turn it over because they do.

@themancalledroy @ByRyanWood I would say that more often than not teams end up having to foul after chasing people around or they’re guarding for a long period and someone gets out of position more than they turn somebody over. Good teams don’t just turn it over because somebody is up guarding them.

@Coach_Runyan @ByRyanWood It is not ridiculous. If you force them to play D, something will happen. Also hilarious to assume the offense will never turn the ball over because they do turn it over. What a stupid argument.

How do you know they’re in a zone? Kay because they aren’t up at half court doesn’t mean they’re zone. Under your idea they want “get up and guard” and then what guard for 2 min which is ridiculous to ask a team to do until they’re worn out from a team moving them around (because clearly they’re killing the clock) so you want team on D to put themself at a disadvantage by guarding for 90sec-2min? Why not every state assoc. just get a shot clock like the basketball world has. It’s better basketball.

Get out of your zone and go defend then. Obviously a shot clock would be better but there’s nothing worse about dribbling with no defense than not actually defending.

Force action and they space you even more and continue to love the ball and cut you and move the ball and cut you until… back cut layup. They chose to take the air out of it, getting up and forcing action isn’t gonna make them try to score it just makes them move you around more with you trying to force a turnover or your guys get worn down after 2 min of D and they cut you for a layup. Just get a shot clock like the entire world of basketball and this isn’t an issue, and it’s better basketball.

They need a shot clock. Are you basing that off the idea that 1team is bad? Because if you have 2 good or even solid teams, solid ball handlers aren’t just gonna turn it over, but what does happen is spacing/movement for 90-120sec. And eventually someone on D is a little out of position and you have a backdoor layup. Asking people to “get up and play defense” and then asking them to play it for 2min without giving something to up is ridiculous. Thats why nobody else plays the game without a shot clock.

@Coach_Runyan @ByRyanWood They don't need a shot clock. This is on the defense for standing there with a thumb up their rear instead of playing defense. They need to invoke a rule that forces the defense to actually play it.

Cool doesn’t win, I’m not about cool. I’m just about having a shot clock so my team has to play D for 35 sec and get a stop and we play basketball. Not play D for 2 solid minutes which we both know is incredibly hard for a team to get up and “guard tough” for 2 solid minutes against a team that is solid to good. More likely resulting in us out of position after 90sec. and the offense getting a layup on a cut or backdoor. May be an opinion, but pretty close to reality. No reason not to have a shot clock when kids younger than HS overseas play with it, and everyone in the U.S. at all level plays at a pace to more than fall in line with it, until 3 min left and somebody wants to hold it or move it and make someone guard for 2-3 solid minutes 🤷‍♂️

@Coach_Runyan That’s your opinion. It takes skill to not turn it over for those 2 minutes as well. I think it takes great discipline to not turn it over for those 2 minutes and for my team to understand what shot we are looking for but that seems to be the “uncool” take on high school hoops.

I’m a huge shot clock proponent. Just made a video I posted on why it’s so necessary and makes the game better, with that though if there’s no shot clock it’s within the rules for anybody trying to win a game. That’s why the shot clock is needed it’s not about any coach holding the ball or not it’s about having the shot clock or not.

"Ethical" has become such a cringe word. 😂 It's dumb but not that serious. -It's within the rules -It's one stretch to win a state title, you play to win the game. -The losing team should defend here -Why I love the shot clock

Great question. Incredibly few. We started a tournament we did in the summers 4yrs ago when we started pushing for it. Officials clinic, people running it. Very few problems. This last season in our 23 reg. Season game I bet officials went to the table 4-6 times total in those 23 games, and early reset fix or ball didn’t hit rim. Very few. Everyone I have talked to is half we have it.

@Coach_Runyan Coach, What issues did you see with the implementation? How many shot clock violations did you see this season? Any issues with officials/table in correcting errors?

I wanted to share my thoughts on the Shot Clock and what is has done in Kansas for HS basketball, and dispel some of the arguments against it. It makes Basketball🏀 better! Every State HS assoc. should have a shot clock! #ShotClock #MarchMadness #Basketball

Coach, just made a video about this. We wanted it badly, Only reason ADs don’t want it is cus they don’t want to have to find one more person to schedule to do it, and they don’t want to pay for it. It was the same in our state, and then the Coaches voices were so loud they had too. Nobody has looked back, everyone loves it!

@Coach_Runyan @KyleMalzhan i mean at least then you’re not just sitting there and not making them at least execute something? i agree it’s not good, but i don’t see punishing the offense for having the lead as a solution to anything.

@RieseDraft @KyleMalzhan It’s not punishing them or any team. Forget that game. We R talking about making the sport better. Nobody holds it last 2 minutes anymore. We’ve been ahead & behind last 2 years in games last 2 min and won&lost. The game is better. No holding, No fouling late FT game. It’s better

@RieseDraft @KyleMalzhan Basically if you feel the offense is solid, or even slight advantage. Would u as coach say “guys even tho they’re Going to hold it anyway, get out further spread us out more-guard them, they still will kill the time and we will be more out of position to score but get out there!”

@Coach_Runyan @KyleMalzhan you’re right, the defense’s result that possession may not be what you want, but pretending the defense has to allow the team to take multiple minutes before they could get the ball back is fronts

@RieseDraft @KyleMalzhan I’m not bashing them. They should do it, all of us as coaches have.Make them come foul you late-Win the game. But you said “defense could stop this” it can’t, or at least very low percentage unless the team is bad an just turns it over. The SC is the answer. No reason to not have

@Coach_Runyan @KyleMalzhan no it’s the state title, obviously both teams are good. but you can’t bash the team for holding it if the other team isn’t forcing them to do something else. not the offense’s obligation to make sure the defense can get the ball back.

@RyanRollinsFc @KyleMalzhan Under 2 min. and you get up and guard and then they still moves it on them for 80-90sec. and then the offense scores on a backdoor cut. Kids shouldn’t have to guard for 2min. If your thoughts are true why does anybody have SC at any level? Why don’t they just “defend”

@BarkleyforPrez @KyleMalzhan This is a an argument used by ppl who don’t want change. Read my post above. Once we implemented it in KS schools suddenly have the money and got them. They all find someone to operate. That’s not a real argument. All the former detractors now say “glad we have it”

@KyleMalzhan We pushed for SC in KS starting several years ago. Got approved 2 years ago. Only positives. Those in“No”camp-haven’t heard a single negative word. Nothing better than in huddle down 2/3 w/50sec left, telling team-“We just have to get a stop”. Officials r fans too. Less fouling.
