@CoachNoon45 @uiltexas @OfficialTHSADA @THSCAcoaches Very true! Going to steal. Thank you for posting.

@uiltexas @OfficialTHSADA @THSCAcoaches we require coaches to have various certifications for their sport, so why don’t we require certifications for coaches who run the S&C for their campus or sports? Just because you like to workout doesn’t mean you’re qualified to do that role

The weight room is the most influential room in a school. It’s not a place to hang out — it’s a classroom. A place where habits are built, standards are set, and character is developed.

Standards. Every time.
Volume can create fatigue.
Standards create discipline under fatigue.
Anyone can do more when fresh.
Resilient athletes are the ones who can still:
Move well
Focus
Communicate
Compete
Hold the standard when tired

Hard training has purpose. Ego training has an audience.
Hard training builds:
Performance
Discipline
Resilience
Skill under stress
Ego training chases:
Exhaustion
Punishment
Chaos
Coach validation

Toughness can absolutely be trained, but not by tearing athletes down.
Real resilience is built through:
Consistency
Accountability
Controlled adversity
Competition
Response to failure
Execution under pressure
The best programs don’t break athletes.
They Build

It’s not about being loud, emotional, or trying to “win” the workout. It’s about showing up consistently, staying coachable, holding the standard when fatigue hits, and attacking every rep. Real toughness is discipline, composure, and the ability to do hard things well over time.

One of the most influential conversations I’ve had with another coach was Mike Bartos during my time in Youngstown, Ohio.
He said to me, “A 315lb back squat is actually really impressive for a kid in high school no matter the age when done correctly.”
As Spring Break approaches and the number of videos increases, it’s become increasingly evident to me on X how much emphasis is placed on weight over proper technique. That statement could not be more true.
What you post/repost as the coach shows your true “standard”.

It's going to be an exciting and great experience. I'm thrilled to be part of this platform and collaborate with such talented coaches. Thank you, @NHSSCA_GA, for this opportunity.

@CoachShiffman @UBFootball @CoachNTrawick Saw a 17 year old get it 10 back in 1995… Anthony Slyman went in to play at Akron and had the bench record of 625lbs… there are freaks of nature out there! Great Lift!

@UBFootball @CoachNTrawick Did he just hit 405 ELEVEN times?!?!?!?!

Can coaches make it on the Freaks List? Asking for a friend @CoachNTrawick

No… if that was the case I would be tracking 300yd shuttles or arm circumference.

Only three KPIs (besides attendance)?
1.Sprint speed
2.Jump performance
3.Relative strength
Speed is the highest expression of power.
Jumps show explosiveness.
Strength supports the engine.
Improve those three and most athletes are moving in the right direction.

Poor test results are feedback, not failure.
You must take in consideration: fatigue, timing in the training cycle, sleep, or testing error.
If it’s a true weakness we address it. If not, we stay the course.
Athlete development is measured over years, not one testing day.
