Pack up our gear & set back off to Maidstone at 12.30. Relacement van breaks down outside Woking. We end up arriving in Maidstone at 8am. None of us has had any sleep but we're still excited to be on our first Saturday morning kids show! And I got the badge too!

40yrs ago today- a phonecall yesterday offered us No73 kids show, so it's down to Maidstone for a soundcheck for Saturday's show. 200 miles now but this was before the M40 & M25 were completed. AND we've got to drive back to Polytechnic of Wales, Treforest for our gig later.

40yrs ago today we played a Saturday Night at The Leadmill, Sheff @Leadmill . A club that looked after me both before fame and after. The largest attendance of the tour so far [700] ended in a bruising 2-2 draw. We were paid £300.

@PaulHeatonSolo If you consider drinking and them keeping me up (or vice versa) until 4am after their gig in the pub with me then yes they behaved :) I actually met them when they supported you in Manchester at one of your charity gigs

40yrs ago today we did a warm-up gig at the Sir George Robey pub. Not sure who Sally Pye was but could've been one of the legends behind the 'Adopt a Housemartin' campaign. Our first ever tour proper- The Twisting Roadshow- was two days away-so this was a good solid start!

Today I walked the 5.8 miles to work. From Withington, through Moss Side & Hulme- the bit Sir 'Jim Rat' has never visited [& never will]. The Claremont pub is still serving, and the area's alright, if a little run down. The final shot is of 'Jim's World', of bribery & money.

40 yrs ago last night we played a warm up gig at Adelphi. Owner, Paul Jackson showed nothing but kindness to us, other local bands, & anyone who walked through the door. He's currently very poorly but his genorosity & warmth will never be forgotten. Here's to you Jacko! x

40 yrs ago today we rehearsed at 70 Grafton St- Over There, Sheep, Get Up Off Our Knees, We're Not Deep, I Smell Winter, Anxious, Happy Hour, People Who Grinned, & mystery song Pull Me Through. Meanwhile Flag Day climbed to No22 in the Indie Charts & brother Adi turned 25.
