Reading some of the IR/geopolitics papers you have to wonder whether overly complex phrasing and sentences aren't there just to mask the absence of thought and a lack of understanding of the subject matter. Having worked for diplomats and decision-makers in the field, I can say clarity is paramount. There are no cookie points for using convoluted words when simpler ones would convey the same idea.
