Mind you, the reason DC ended up like this long before James Gunn was even hired for DC Studios is because Batman v Superman, which was supposed to be like this big superhero event of that year, was a terrible movie that Warner Bros. put all their faith in as the foundation of an entire universe. When your supposed grand launching point is that divisive and critically dragged, of course the studio starts panicking, course-correcting, and throwing random ideas at the wall.
A huge part of DC’s instability started there, not with Gunn

All of this garbage was marketed as: “What fans actually want” “A step in the right direction” “Best DC movie since TDK” Turns out, as DC fans knew, none of that was true This was marketed as if it was all being done the right way, but it has failed every single time. All this nonsense about “audience trust 🥺✨” or Emotional ROI or whatever are arbitrary metrics thought up to create some sort of intangible success because no other successes exist You have been getting all the big smiles and bright colors that you begged for for 10+ years now and nobody has gone to see it
