The point of the show isn’t about trying to get you to like Rudy or having him be “rewarded”. None of the people I see complaining about this show seem to care about mentioning Cliff, Paul dying in front of Rudy, or any of the nuances in Rudys relationships. I see it more as Rudy slowly becoming a completely different person the longer he is literally a different person. He’s an emotionally, and socially, stunted shut in that has his hangups while working on major issues. He basically never grew up after high school. It’s a male fantasy, for sure, and I don’t think anyone should watch that if it’s not their thing. You’re not forced to watch it. Personally, I think there’s a lot of creativity in the show that’s much deeper than the relationships or sexually suggestive moments.
