It’s Farmer Friday, and this week, as President @realDonaldTrump’s endorsed candidate for Commissioner of Agriculture, I’m proud to highlight Ben Cothran of Cothran Farms in Spartanburg County. Ben and I have known each other for several years, and I’m grateful for his support and friendship. Like many farmers across the Upstate, he has seen firsthand the pressure overdevelopment is putting on farmland and rural communities. He said it best: “Cody is as good as they come. Kyle and I had a really challenging existence for many years. But we luckily took the time to figure out our differences and that was something he instigated with a conversation in his bus around how we each managed our racing teams. I was super eager for us to get on better terms. But it was he who made the effort for that to be possible. We did some media together also to laugh through some of the things we put each other through many years ago. Most recently we had even been discussing him running my Late Model at Wilkesboro this summer. He seemed extremely happy and we had planned to meet up next Thursday to get his seat to the shop. He laughed over the idea of his fans and JRM fans having to cheer in unison during that race. Kyle was one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR history. No one can deny that. But he was also a father, a husband, brother, son, and a friend to many. My heart is broken for the Busch family. I will never be able to make sense of this loss but I am thankful that we had found a way to become friends.

I wake up every day proud to be a South Carolinian, born and raised two miles down a dirt road on my family’s farm. Being on the campaign trail has reminded me just how blessed I am by the Lord to have friends who have become family. We are LIVE here in Blackstock, SC over on the county line of Chester and Fairfield counties, meeting with our Young Farmers from right here in rural South Carolina! Historical places like the gymnasium here are always my favorite stops, especially when I get to meet with the next generation of South Carolina agriculture that we are fighting for every day. I often find myself saying “this is America” when I go places, well this is here is AMERICANA! Yesterday, I had the opportunity to attend the open house celebrating the grand opening of the expanded the historic South Carolina Farm Bureau Marketing Association Grain Elevator in Anderson. 🌾 This multimillion-dollar expansion nearly doubled the facility’s grain storage capacity while adding new office and warehouse space. As the only grain facility of its kind in the Upstate, this project will help strengthen market access and support grain farmers across our state for years to come. A few of these photos are throwbacks from the “corn-breaking ceremony” in 2024, where we celebrated in true agriculture fashion by shoveling corn instead of dirt. Seeing this project officially come to life is a testament to the hard work, vision, and partnership that made it possible. It was also great to discuss the importance of grain bin safety and continuing to collaborate with our local fire departments and first responders on specialized training as facilities like this continue to grow and serve our agricultural communities. Our Lowcountry support was on display in full force with Governor @henrymcmaster at J&C Farms in Reevesville and late into the evening in Allendale at JCO Farms with the SC Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers. Countless farmers, loggers, foresters, and business leaders, including those who traveled hours to be there, took time away from tilling their fields, working in the woods, and serving their customers at the restaurants to hear our message for the next generation of South Carolina agriculture. The next Commissioner of Agriculture must be a FARMER who understands our operations from the bottom up, not the top down. For far too long, our agricultural community has been controlled by those who have never worked out in the fields much less spent much time on our family farms. I’m running to be the voice for our state’s over 530,000 small business owners, 400,000 military veterans, and 22,600 farms. I will be their advocate on DAY ONE! The support shown for the Run, Cody, Run movement is proof the PEOPLE across the state are ready for the next generation of leadership at YOUR Department of Agriculture.
